I was playing my ESP Esclipse recently with EMG's on the bridge position 81 and suddenly the noise floor jumped up with a huge amount of hiss/white noise even with the volume rolled down to 0.

I initially thought it was the battery, but when I changed the battery nothing changed. The neck postion EMG doesn't do it, just the bridge 81.

I'm not sure which direction to go to try to troubleshoot the problem at this point.

It totally sounds like the battery man, what you describe are the exact symptoms of an emg set battery dying.

Wierd....connection from the 81 to the battery....?

Double check the wiring/battery. EMG will replace the pickup if it's bad, though. Email them.

Everytime i had a battery go bad it was just super low and quiet. I.e., no signal. Ive had a couple of them go bad tho and have a broken up output or none.

Take it out and make sure it's quick connect is secured good. You could also try taking the neck pickup out and hook it up in the bridge to see how it does. If the neck pickup works properly the bridge pickup might have went bad. If the neck pickup makes the same noise in the bridge position it's probably in the wiring.
