the basics would be cool, hi/lo output, ceramic, magnet, etc.

I'm also very interested in the Black Iron. There's very little info about. I do know that it's Alnico and I believe it's medium-high output.

Alnico II. Think SD custom custom variation with a tighter bottom and slightly more aggressive, little less round on the top end. Mids galore. Used to be his blisterbucker. Slightly refined from that supposedly. Great pickup.

at the ducan site, it says the custom custom has kind of a spongier low end, does the black iron have a spongy low end?

Yes. Tighter than the duncan. I think that is a characteristic of the A2 magnets. To me it is a nice feel. MCP makes an Angel Dust which is the A5 version I believe. Never tried it.
Probably will be like the Custom 5 vs. the Custom custom. A2 vs A5. Custom 5 is scooped in the mids with more bass and highs. Punchier where the custom custom is more mids.
If your guitar is a little soft on the bottom to begin with or your amp is loose in the bass then the black iron might come across as too spongy. A personal preferance thing I think. Never had a problem with it but my amp it a VHT deliverance and pretty punchy and tight to begin with.
Grindy mids = Black Iron, Super punchy low end= maybe look elsewhere?
I would say med to med hot in output. More than a hot paf style but a little less than a JB, or distortion

It sure would be sweet if Wade would update MCP's website already FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!! :bash:  :bash:  :bash:
