Can I put 6L6's in my 50W Einstein?

Yes you can.

Diezel's suggestions for pairwise plate biasing are (Einstein, Herbert):
5881: 50 mA
6L6: 60 to 70 mA
EL34 60 to 70 mA
6550, KT66, KT88: 80 mA

That's what tech corner says. Though one should experiment a bit to satisfy personal taste, needs etc.

I have 6L6 in mine.... sounds beautiful! (It came with EL34 btw)

Hey this topic is not dead !!!

Hello,

Can someone tell me what it will change if I replace the tubes of my 50W Einstein head (factory EL34) by other tubes (6L6 for example ?).
Yesterday I tried the new "Schmidt head" of a friend of mine... I found it more "open" and less compressed than my Einstein.
Can a change of tubes make my Einstein sound a bit more "vintage" ? (maybe I'd rather say "less modern")

I know that these 2 amps have a different conception (Schmidt is Class A)... I'm just wondering if I'll love a bit more my Einstein with other tubes... :scared:

Thanks for your experience !

You just need to adjust the bias. The trimmer's range should be wide enough for 6L6s.

I don't think that yoou will change the character of the amp, powertubes = nuances. But thats my personal opinion. If you want to change the character use different volume settings for master/channel vols, which works within a range . . .

I'd use only Svetlana 6L6GCs btw.

Thanks for your opinion Olaf ! ;)

At first I'll try different preamp tubes... and later maybe different power tubes.
