Can I run a vocal PA through a Marshall 1960a safely?

Hey Guys,

My band has a low end Peavey PA head. The cab we were using was the singers old 1960a and it sounded fine with vocals coming through it. He had to sell that cab, so I was wondering about running it through my 1960a for one practice. My cab has WGS veteran 30's and ET65's in it. It would just be for one or two practices.

I never asked before because it wasn't my cab we were using, but I thought I'd ask now that it's relevant to my interests. :D

The other option we have is to have the bass player bring over an extra cab and we can use that.

Thanks!
John

Just vocals should be fine. I wouldn't run a bass or kick drum through it. Your 412 should be a 240Watt RMS cab, just watch for the Powered PA clipping.

If you can use a bass cab though, to me that would be more ideal, they generally have tweeters and have more PA style speakers.

Thanks! It would be just vocals. I can manage the volume of those guys too (2 singers).

Watch the power ratings--don't try and push a 1000-watt P.A. amp through the 240-watt-rated 1960A. Also make sure impedances match.

Good luck!!

I think we're going to use an Ampeg 8X10 so I'm getting off easy on this one!
