Can I???

I've got 2 Mills Acoustics Afterburner cabs with Celestion G12K-100's loaded in both?

Stoop question i know...

Let a brother know...

Depends how it's currently wired - what are the speakers rated at??

I doubt they're 4ohm, more than likely 16ohm in parallel, 8ohm in series.

Its all 8 ohm, speakers the lot... I think thats what you're asking?

You can wire the cab to be a stereo cab and use two outputs on the amp instead of one. Short of a speaker swap, that's really the only way to 'safely' turn an 8 ohm cab into a 4 ohm one. Wire each pair of speakers in parallel.

Ok, so I use both outputs of the amplifier right? How does that effect the wattage?

Currently i own a QSC RMX 2450. If I go 8 ohms the QSC puts out 500 watts a side stereo, 4 ohms is 750 a side etc

Does it stay the same or alter?

Or... 2 parallel pairs tied together via serial wiring. If the speakers are stamped with 8ohm impedance on the back of them, then putting a pair in parallel would make those two 8ohm speakers a total load of 4ohm, and series with the other pair would maintain 4ohm loads.

I think

Resistance in series is additive. 4Ω + 4Ω = 8Ω  If he were to parallel the same two 4Ω sides, he would get a total impedance of 2Ω.

Can you not just run the two 8 ohm cabs with your amp set to 4 ohms?

A 4x12 with 8 ohm speakers can only be mono 8ohms using all four speakers. 2 and 32 ohms is not an option.

Using less speakers or wired "Stereo" you could get 4ohms or 16 ohms with 8 ohm speakers.

A 4x12 with 4 ohm speakers can be mono 4 ohms or mono 16 ohms using all speakers.

A 4x12 with 16 ohm speakers can be mono 4 ohms or mono 16 ohms using all speakers.

If both cabs are mono 8ohms, then you'd have a 4ohm load using both cabs.

Good grief! I can't believe how many of you have this screwed up.

You can run four 8 ohm speakers in mono (1 jack) as follows, take notes please. Those of you who are wrong, please edit or delete your posts so you don't confuse others, alright?

Series/parallel wiring as 8 ohms total load in mono.

In series at 32 ohms (all four add up when wiring in series)

In parallel at 2 ohms (all four divide down, such as 8 / 4 = 2)

Here's the correct link yeti posted for the wiring diagrams he offered up. Scroll down to the four speaker wiring diagrams

You can't. If you run both of the cabs (8 ohms each) into your amp (assuming it has two speaker output jacks), it will present a load of 4 ohms to the amp, so that's what you'd set your impedance selector at on the amp to match the two cabs being used at the same time. If only one, set it to 8.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did say and admit minor mindfuck potential in my post - I'm cleared :salute:

Mind fuck apology accepted. Granted this is probably one of the few subjects I know well enough to flog people online over, so I jumped at the opportunity to be all powerful and omnipotent and shit.

Just kidding. ;)

This is what I was eluding to. I don't understand the OP's concern when this solution is available to him...?
