Can this offset nut be corrected? I’m thinking not.

You can fill and redrill but i wouldn't want to. Another option is to go up in size to cover it.

I would take the locking allen bolts out and see if there are screws that hold the locking nut to the neck. I would see if I could loosen them up and slide the locking nut to the bass side of the neck, if not and wanted to keep the guitar you could probably machine those holes that hold it on to the neck to allow it to side.

Agree with JasonP. in that picture, it doesn’t look there are any screws holding the nut down? if they aren’t there, hopefully the holes are in the right place and you can just add them. If they are there, since that’s a top mount nut, just plug the screw holes with small dowels, center and mark new nut holes, drill and mount.

If you just bought this guitar in my opinion I would just return it and look for another. When you buy a guitar you shouldn't have to do this kind of work on it. Good luck whichever way you go.

If the strings align with the neck and trem, I’d leave it.

You could move to a bigger nut, but it will change the string spacing, but you will have to fill and redrill holes. I did it with a guitar with the nut screws that went through the neck. It was work, but I ended up getting perfect results.

Yes it can be corrected.

Is the nut front mounted or rear mounted? As some have asked is the nut attached to the guitar? Looks to me like a rear mounted nut. A pic of the back of the neck and the nut with the locking clamps removed would be helpful.

The nut pictured appears to be too narrow for the neck (Unless the nut overhangs the neck on the high E side or is loose).

Mounting holes would have to be filled, shaped to the neck (if rear mounted), sanded, and re-tapped to position the nut properly on the neck. If the nut is rear mounted it may not look very appealing when all is said and done. A front mounted nut could be repositioned without anyone being the wiser.

If this guitar is new to you consider returning it as a faulty instrument.

It is on a local Craigslist. I talked to the guy and it’s definitely a defect. I passed on it.
