I just got an awesome Les Paul Standard from tpruitt here on the forum (thanks bro!). Great guitar and plays outstanding. It currently has two Dimarzio Super Distortions in it and they are great pickups but wondering if there is something else that would fit my tones, etc better.

On my previous Les Paul Standard, I had a Suhr Aldrich in the bridge and Burstbucker in the neck and thought it was a great combo. I really loved the Suhr. As far as Les Pauls and SGs, in the past I've had a JB, Duncan Distortion, Iommi, stock Gibsons, and the Aldrich. All have been great pickups and have their advantages.

I play mostly hard rock and metal and have my custom "Van Halen" guitar with a Frankenstein pickup for when I want to do that type stuff. I need a pickup that can do everything from Alice in Chains to Metallica but clean up a bit if I want to jam on some other stuff. Like I said, I lean toward the Aldrich because I used it in the past and loved it. Just want to get some opinions.

I've got BKP Mules in my 2001 Classic and a set of Rebel Yells in my Standard. Love both sets. The RYs just sound killer for heavier tones. They clean up nicely when rolled off. The Mules are just super impressive. They are PAF style pickups, but take gain like a champ. I highly recommend both. The clip below was done with the Rebel Yells.

Nice! Love the solo! We must be close in age because your style was similar and captured the same vibe I would have. :)

Thanks for the input!

Thanks man, I'll think about it. I'm actually looking for black but keeping an open mind. :)

Love the BK Rebel Yell's!!! I've had them in 2 LP's and they're flat out killer.

This. Or Suhr Thornbuckers. Cannot go wrong either way.

I think I'm leaning toward the 2nd Degree Black Belts but I'm a guitarist and you know how we are about changing our minds about everything under the sun. :)

I'm just happy to have a Les Paul Standard again! :)

A good LP is so hard to beat. Make sure you also look into upgrading the cheap crap bridge hardware they pass off on us. I got a Callaham bridge and stopbar on mine. I was blown away by the improvement in clarity and articulation of each string. In fact I'd suggest this upgrade BEFORE changing pickups.

Duncan "whole lotta humbucker" set will be very versatile, will do the heavy stuff with a high gain amp and will clean up great.

Are you talking the steel stuff callaham makes? I wouldnt change the hardware out just yet. I use to always change out the hardware but eventually came back to stock. The steel stuff is tricky as it makes everything sound clear but it also robs from the low end

Yep, steel with brass saddles. There is less low-end, but at least in my case I'm not lacking low-end on account of my rig. I've found the low-end is recoverable with dialing in your rig, changing speakers, or getting darker pickups. The clarity and articulation of the upper harmonics are harder to manufacture outside of a bridge upgrade. That's been my limited experience anyway. There are other good bridge upgrades like the aforementioned Faber that won't be as bright too.

Its more of the bright ping sound steel adds to the sound that's displeasing to my ears depending on guitar. Same with steel frets. I've only tried steel bridge post but I'm sure its even more with steel bridge. Now back to pickup suggestions.
Motor City all the way. 2nd degree is great afwayu is my favorite lately. Afwayu is hotter and more fluid high up high on neck for me.

Yeah, I just pulled my ad for these as I popped them in my LP and they sound really great! They are staying for now.

the good deal about you getting a good deal on the 2nd Degree's, is that you can flip them easily if they are not doing it for you. ;) :D
