Can you mod a solo boost into a mark IV?

I was wondering if its possible to take my head to a tech and have him mod in a solo boost function like there is on the mark V, all the rectos, and other non mark series amps. And is it also possible to make it footswitchable from the stock mark IV footswitch? like instead of turning the eq off and on make it toggle the solo boost.

dunno, but I bet it would be easier and cheaper to just get a boost pedal of some variety, which would accomplish the same thing.

I gave my Mark IV the Ebay boost mod right out the door.




Once again the IV is just not my thing but my friend could make his sing with no boost.

Well im already using a clean boost in the amp fx loop but i want to get a multi fx unit and the RJM mini amp gizmo to control amp switching but since the amp doesnt have a built in boost i'd have to get a more expensive switching unit just to be able to use one extra pedal plus switch the amps channels.

Yeah I would use and EQ pedal or a microamp or something in the loop for a vol boost. Are the IV loops serial or parallel?

The loop on my mark IVA is serial. When I switch it on, the tone does seem to change a bit, but it could be the pedals I have in the loop.

As for a solo boost on the mark IV, if aren't using the onboard 5 band EQ, than that can be a built in solo boost. Otherwise an EQ pedal with a level slider in the effects loop is what I would recommend. I also thought about making the tweed to full power footswitable, but you would need a serious switch to be able to take that current, but that would give you a volume boost.

I use the loop. I have my Intellifex and I program the levels on a patch to be lower for the rhythmn level.
I then adjust my lead patch to be higher. For a gig, I found that adjusting the lead to be 5db higher gives a good result.

So, rhythm patch = -5 db
Lead = 0 db.

You can mod an amp to do just about anything, but to add a solo boost like on a Recto, you'd need to add an extra pot, a relay, and the circuitry required to power the relay. There's also not a lot of room in the MarkIV chassis, so finding a place to locate the extra circuitry might be tricky.

Using an external device like a switchable EQ is a better option.

its doable. its a hassle but I have a switchboard that uses vactrols and adding another pot and changing things around, totally doable. do you want to carve another hole for the 1 meg pot? is there room for the small board and circuitry ? ? if so Ill do it. $200 mod

well i was thinking just having the the reverb completely taken out and just using the reverb knob on the back to set the level for the boost. since i dont use the built in reverb at all anyway.

This guy does it with existing circuitry and pedal. The boost kicks in with the eq.

Signal Pad from EHX could solve that problem. Essentially a reverse boost, limits signal through it when on, releases it when off. Good pedal for that situation.
