HAS to be fucking tone deaf.

next to brad paisley, she sound like marky mark in boogie nights when he sang "you got the touch".

fucking unbearable.

funny skit though, and brad was awesome as usual.

I need to check this out.

Brad Paisley is indeed the man

nevermind.

why i know this shit...wife is watching cma's in family room whilst i peruse gear.

sara evans is just abominably out of tune and ...well if her stage presence is any inkling into her sex life.....she's terrible at that too!

See, have no idea who Sara Evans is, just google imaged her, and holy shit she is gorgeous. Thanks for bringing her up :D

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, together, actual make an awards show bearable. The jokes don't seem nearly as forced as most shows do and some of the stuff is actually pretty funny. Say what you will: Paisley AND Urban are both great. Sara Evans can definitely sing, so I'm going to cut her slack and assume that she was having trouble hearing her in-ears. Partly because I don't mind looking at her ;)

EVERY time i've seen or heard sara evans (even on her cd's in the car), she's flat or sharp and never even NEAR in key. say what i will, cause, i will, yes, for sure shes hot looking, but, she's pitchy as all hell live and on cd, she's shaky at best.

underwood is on again butchering "remind me"...you'd think after all the money she's made, and the resources at the disposal of the record execs (or whoever), someone would actually step up and address her pitch issues and force her to fix them. then again, why bother, she's one of the best selling female country artists of all time, so, just keep selling on her cute looks and invest as little as possible, and then when she flitters out, they'll just toss her aside too.

i find it funny how a lot of people will defend these "artists" and "performers" with "maybe the monitor mix is bad, maybe its the dreaded 'tv' mix, blah blah....except....how are brad paisley, band perry, keith urban, blake shelton all sounding great, performing fine and not pitchy....and now, scotty mccreary is in key, but most of the other "artists" had pitch issues though too.

if my wife weren't a country fan, i'd know nothing about any of this, i'm just outside honestly looking in (but i do know who a handful of these people are vicariously).

Pitchy... That word and it's over use these days just cracks me up. Randy Jackson has got to be a proud papa.

I watched one minute of that silly show. The dude with the cotton winter hat (Zac something) that had Gregg Allman sit in hit some nasty notes. Yeah, I agree. The defense of these people is silly. Particularly when most of them are spot on. You know, these "professionals".

I wasn't necessarily defending anyone, just saying that I've heard Sara Evans before and, in my opinion, remember thinking she can sing really well. But, what do I know? What I have heard from her has also been "vicariously" (girlfriend) as I don't intentionally listen to her. I did make a point to watch a Crossroads episode with her and Maroon 5 and thought she did well there. She has a cute smile, so maybe I wasn't really paying attention

What I find interesting in this thread is that no one mentioned how terrible Taylor Swift is as a singer. Sure she's young and seems to be able to write catchy tunes that sell well. She's successful and I applaud anyone's success in music. But, damn!, she has a 4 note range and seems to miss half of them. Outside of the 4 million 10-12 year-old boys and girls that download her music, I don't get it

I can't stand this modern bullshit Barbie Doll trash that is marketed as country music... you might as well listen to Ashley Simpson.

I think there were some monitoring issues. Her mic sounded quiet to me and I saw a bunch of the performers reaching around and adjusting their in ear monitors like they weren't happy with something during the awards. I suspect its hard to get good on the fly mixes with so many people on and off the stages is such rapid succession. She has a great voice and can clearly sing, sounded to me like she couldn't hear. As always, blame the sound guy first  . I'm not really defending her, I think American Idol is a cheesy way to break into the music business and I don't really have a lot of respect for anyone who doesn't write their own music. Even the ones who claim to write their own i.e Taylor Swift, have so much help from so many people. So much incredible talent in Nashville, it's just sick. Most of the real song writing talent never gets on a stage. Most of the singers are just people with a great voice and a pretty face to deliver the songs written by others. And they are good at what they do. My .02. I'd rather listen to a band, as in a group of people who write, record and perform their own music, based on their own personal experiences. Even if said writing, recording, and performing is a little raw around the edges. Ever heard the Stones live? Want to talk about shitty vocals and music mistakes galore. It will put Carrie Underwood going flat a few times into perspective. Yet, I'd rather hear it with all of it's mistakes than some polished Nashville assembly line music. The listening public disagrees

BTW, the Stones are just the first group that popped up in my head, many other examples abound.

Ok, I just had to google Sara Evans as I'd never heard of her before. She's nowhere near as "hot" as you guys are making her out to be. She'll always be the hottest chick at the office party but she's no world class knock-out.

Agreed: I was just saying that I think she's reasonably attractive. She's not drop-dead pretty...

i don't get it either. the whole pop music movement is just ghastly.

I caught the cotton hat dude too (zac brown)...he sounded bad too....it's really easy to pick out the real singers and musicians during these galas, as opposed to the performers. i didn't catch taylor swift. she always sounds nervous and warbly to me though, though, she's oddly enough, cute and forgiveable :) ....then again, im just some has been hack that plays in my basement on sub par gear for my own amusement, so, i shouldn't really throw rocks as much as i'd like to.

brad paisley has great guitar tone and his can sing well for what he does. i appreciate his song writing and wit.
that's about as far as my modern country music taste goes.

that is all.

It seems to me it has been this way a very long time. Often in entertainment appearance is more important than substance. I really do not think this is going to change anytime soon. Often how things sell has little to do with quality. I take it most people are familiar with this...

I sometimes work with a few country singers .... trying to not use the "twang" is difficult. They really are often unable to just hit pitch. I think this is why they are drawn to country often....
