I've been looking n looking at carvin guitars for years but always afraid to pull the trigger. What are they like ? Quality? Sound? feel?

Are they as good as the big names because in a lot of cases they sure are nicer looking.

I love mine, and would not hesitate to order another! Best value out there by far imo.

Which one do you have. Pics?

I was thinking another evh but don't really want a signature. But the evh plays n sounds killer.

I love them so much that I've had 4 built in the last 16 months. People who say bad things about them around the net probably have never even picked one up. I've seen generic statements like "they have no soul" or "pickups suck".......but I have no problems whatsoever.

Super quality and fastest playing guitars I've ever touched. I still keep the Les Pauls and Teles around.....but they don't get played much!

I love mine but I'd recomend buying used because the resale on Carvins is terrible. You can find some great deals on eBay.

Yeah but ya get exactly what ya want if ya order .... Kinda nice

I have a Ultra V and a Jason Becker sig both are very well built! compliment my other guitars as well I also have a LP Traditional, Yngwie strat and a few USA BC Richs the Jason Becker is as good as any guitar I have and have played! But yes no resale value but I dont plan on selling anyway!!

I have played 2 carvin guitars. They were similar models. One was from the 80s and the other was made a few years ago. I much preferred the 80s one, both in feel in sound. I am not a big fan of the carvin pickups either. I think carvin does themselves a disservice by not having a few more stores around the country. I have a friend who lives in la, who says carvin guitars are really popular there and he loves going into the carvin store.

The PRS copies really look great. Somehow I got a catalog yesterday.

Anyone have one?

I owned a newer V220 and it was a great guitar. Just didn't get played much. It was a bare bones model. Not a lot of flash. Got it at a good price used. If it had been a little more aesthetically pleasing I would have kept it.

It was boring looking but it played and sounded great. I'd buy another Carvin for sure.

I currently own a few and they are a very good instruments. Build quality is excellent and playability is too. I don't flip guitars so I've never cared about resale. Usually do swap our electronics though as I have particular tastes. Then again, I usually swap electronics on every guitar I get.

Just realized my cs4 is in my avatar pic.

I have two sevens, a dc747 and a 727, and a CT6. Their pickups are ok, but are kind of flat sounding, outdone by other pickup manufacturers. I wish they would make their pickup spacing/sizing the same as others though so that you could change pickups without having to route the cavity on the 7's.

I've owned a couple in the past. Like most will tell you: Resale sucks, pickups suck (for the most part), they make good quality instruments for the money and it's nice that you are able to get some custom options for decent prices. While they are quite nice, I would not put them on the same level as Suhr or Tom Anderson, but that's to be expected. For the money though, they are very nice. I never owned the neck-thrus, as I never been a fan of them. But, I had a C66 bolt on and a CT3 and the CT3 (Carved Top) impressed me the most....it was nice.

I bought three Carvin DC700's in 2012 and 2 of the 3 were fantastic. One of them had issues, but I addressed them locally rather than send it back to Carvin. A fret needed punched back down into the fretboard & others needed leveled. The guitar also came with some sort of funk all over it. I don't know if it was from the case or what. I sold two off them off to fund a KxK seven string.

Quality: it's there, great for the $ spent
Sound: stock Carvin active p/ups were too hot/brittle in my opinion, replaced them with EMG's
Feel: they feel great - on the DC700's the 20in radius fretboard felt best to me versus the 14in

And yes, resale absolutely blows. Hard.

Hmmm evh guitar I had I now wished I never sold. It was perfect in every way. Maybe just go back to that. Don't know if the carvin w be the same.

I have two dc747c's and a 5 and 6 string bass.
I think their guitars are great and you do get a lot for your money. The necks while not as thin as an Ibanez are very comfortable. I really never had any issues with their pickups. I thought they were versatile and had a nice sonic range. I really enjoy their basses as well. Very playable and they set up quite well. If you order, definitely order by phone, not via their website.

Yeah, the Carvin won't replace that, if the evh is what you're looking for. Which Evh anyway? The current ones, like the Special? Or you talking about Music Man era? If it was perfect, why'd ya sell it? Get into a jam or something?

I have played like 15 or so Carvin guitars in my guitar playing lifespan, and although I like the way they look, I could never get on w/the necks. I'd have to say I rather prefer the stock Ibz pups to the Carvins, too.
