I guess you never saw this vid from the Look What the Cat Dragged in tour

What the hell is that? I ended up watching more videos by him. I do not get it at all. People see talent there?

I think its more about the use of of sound as a pure Art form not necessarily music or song.

remember this isn't a guy who is playing so badly that is sounds like my cat when he swats at my strings.

His "performances" are predetermined and calculated, organized cacophony if you will, presented as an Art form for the sake of pushing the guitar further in the Artistic sense, not the musical sense.

now whether or not you find artistic value in it is as they in the eye (or ear) of the beholder.

I just had a discussion w/ a coworker who is a 20th century music expert. He was a flut player and still is a composer. He has heard from one source that John cage used to laugh w/ a close friend at the audiences there to see his art.
He can not find any other proof of this, but he believes, it really is a joke.
If that's true, I think it's one of the highest forms of comedy
If it's not true....it's still funny
especially considering that other link I posted
henry Kaiser devoted this life to analyzing this stuff, where as that older guy came from a time when it was just done...probably not a lot of thought behind it...
