CCV: Boosting the mid-gain position?

Hey Guys,

I normally use full clipping on the lead channel, but last night I moved to the far left (on mine at least) and engaged the mid-level gain structure. I turned the gains up a little more, and hit it with a boost (no gain added, just level) and got some seriously killer tones. I think I liked it better than the full clipping position alone (without a boost that is).

Has anyone tried this? I guess boosting the mid gain is sort of like using the full clipping, but I do think it changed the tone a bit and sounded pretty evil.

Been toying with doing this exact thing, to see if amp sounded any different than Ch 2 when it is "gained out" in full clipping mode . The only reason that I haven't yet, is because I do not have a decent "clean" boost pedal. Thinking about trying the Creation Audio Labs version, Mk 4.23 (I think thats what it is called....)

Glad to hear that it is worth the effort, and has a little different "flavor".

Try it with both gains in the middle position, G1 about 1:00 and G2 about 10:00-12:00.
Master to the right and around 11:00.
Everything else about normal, but I like to run the presence high and to the left or right.

You can start cooking the power end then with the master up and not rely so much on the clipping circuits in the preamp. Plug straight into the amp.

I was playing with this combo again last night and I really like it. You can get close by switching to full clipping and reducing the bass a bit, but I'm going to keep using the boost for now.

Try a parametric EQ in the FX loop. It will make you want to take your clothes off and play naked.....
