Just the reissue either made in England or now china... what do you think of these for hard rock at a decent volume? I tried them several years ago, I normally play though vintage 30's and I play with a loud drummer (like tommy Aldridge style lol) I remember switching out cabs one time with my greenback loaded 1960x and thinking what the fuck is this muddy farty shit I'm listening to- and sold them immediately to donbarzini.

anyway, I just bought 4 more to try out. How much volume are you guys giving these speakers to stay together and sound decent? Is this a waste of time? How the hell does angus young use these with a cranked amp? how does demartini use them at loud volumes wit an SLO? I'm open to suggestions!

Wizards are voiced perfectly for greenbacks. I've never had any volume issues with them. Only issue for me is trying to use two of them, they don't like it much :)

They will have more low end than v30 so you may need to adjust your bass down alittle.

^^ thank you... where are you running your volume on your M/C?

They're great for high-gain and hard rock as long as you keep the volume manageable for their power handling capabilities. There certainly is more risk with 25-watt speakers. But give 'em a try.

I'm liking a trace elliot cab I have with 2 v30's on bottom and two Chinese greenbacks on top .
This is at this time my favorite paring .
Well maybe my fav sounding cab .

Consider some creambacks if the greenbacks breakup too early for you.

Greenbacks have a sound you either love or not. Not the most versatile speaker, but cool at what they do....

When I gigged it was around three on the Lead channel. Usually with one 4-12. Some bigger places I would use two cabs.

Yup, my Wizard is sitting on top of Greenbacks. Or in my case, Weber's version of Greenbacks.

With Greenback's speaker breakup, it more about crazy gain being an issue, than power handling.

I have a '76 Marshall 4X12 with Blackback/Greenbacks and an '02 with English Greenbacks. Both sound awesome with high gain, and at high volumes. Never had issues with either, and I've used them with everything from Marshall to cranked Dual Rectos. I also have 2 V30 cabs (Mesa and Marshall). It's just a different flavor.

I had a Framus Cobra and it's matching cab for a long time and it came loaded with greenbacks. Sounded amazing, full on angry mid roar with smooth highs and pretty good low end. And I ran that fucker loud too.

good info... thanks all. Shipment should arrive in a few days. I'll report back

I couldn't deal with the high end....too much of it from the reissues. And I like V30s?? But I should've given them time to break in. Really liked the G12C though...same with the Heritage that came with the EVH cab...too much high end. But I'm sure they are better when properly broken in.

You are just too used to v30's that don't have any high end. I don't find GBs to be too bright at all. H30's on the other hand are very very bright.

One of the main complaints you hear Re V30s is an ever present, can't be dialed out, shrill high end. That's why some folks really like the MESA V30 speaker - the highs are rolled off, even straight out of the box.

Well, my V30s are from the 90s and well broken in. And the Jubilee is a good fit for v30s. But, my G1265 cab is my favorite. Supposed to be a greenback variant, but I find them a ton more pleasing to my ears.

lol... it was with my 2555 that I first tried the greenbacks... they just buckled under the power of that amp.

One of these days when I'm not messing with the car, I will record a few clips of mine with GBs in the Wizard cab, v30's from my Mesa cab and an EVM 12 just for the hell of it.

I'm sure if I tried a broken in cab of GBs or took the time to break my new ones in, they would have sounded fine. Its kinda known as one of the best rock speakers of all time for a reason.. ;)

This^^^...If GB's can handle a Cobra, I would think that they could handle anything.

My GB-loaded Bogner 4x12 held up just fine with my Diezel VH4.
