Celestion Greenbacks

If you are worried about greenbacks handling a load then why not go creambacks?? more power. more bottom end :rock:

You are just too used to v30's that don't have any high end. I don't find GBs to be too bright at all. H30's on the other hand are very very bright.

One of the main complaints you hear Re V30s is an ever present, can't be dialed out, shrill high end. That's why some folks really like the MESA V30 speaker - the highs are rolled off, even straight out of the box.

The treble isn't pushed, they just have a lot of high mids.
 
Ok, here are my thoughts after trying out the new cab with greenbacks... keep in mind Ive always used vintage 30's so my reference point is just that. Compared to the V30's the greenbacks are scooped... a little more hollow in the middle with more top and bottom. I can see why people mix these speakers with v30's. The greenbacks sound good and seemed to hold up fine using higher volumes. I like the clarity a little better than vintage 30's, especially on the low strings when riffing.
The v30's fill out as you turn them up as far as low end... the greenbacks are already there.

I like these speakers... they are a little cleaner when soloing almost like Ive lost some gain. Must be the effect of the overall mid eq
 
If you mix them try the GBs on top of the V30s. Evens out the sound a bit since the V30s have a higher sensitivity.

I love em! I always have a wtf moment when people on forums talk of how they don't have much bottom end. A 4x12 filled with greenbacks has a shitload of bottom imho.

yep... plenty of bottom
 
I think Greenbacks sound best loud, lol, but yeah, you have to go a bit less over the top with the gain on them since they have this squishy and slightly washy attack because of the breakup. A wee bit brighter and thinner settings from the amp also help.

I wouldn't call Greenbacks "scooped", but yeah, they definitely have a different mid voicing compared to V30's. I think Greenbacks are more about chunky low mids than actual deep bottom like T-75's, though.
 
I still say an old 800 cab with older T75s can be a great sounding cab, very greenbackish to me. And usually cheap too...
 
I wonder how long these will last? I use about the same volume as a marshall 2203 on 4 with the preamp dimed... sounds good. I wonder for how long?
 
Greenbacks aren't fragile. Yeah, they probably won't handle a Diezel Herbert with KT88's for long, but they have no problem with 100 watt amps, IME.
 
Greenbacks rule. I love my 1960 with GBs. Be it a DSL or my Mark V they sound fantastic for this.
 
I like Greenies too. just have the right character to me...like than over all other celestions.

Not that I've tried every kind of celestion, just what I've experienced...and a note: I like the china ones more. Don't know why, just do.
