I had been looking at a few hotrodded Marshall options, such as the Friedman Runt and some of the Splawn amps. I am really looking for something with two channels. I want something that at least sounds decent at lower volumes, and sounds good cranked.
A few days ago, I started looking into some of the Ceriatone amps, and saw the Ceriatone AFD #35 50 watt. This seems to check a lot of boxes, on paper -- especially with the half power mode and PPIMV. I also love the external bias adjustments, since my tech is going to be retiring soon, and I'll probably have to start driving two hours to find a good one. Unfortunately, other than a few old posts and even fewer YouTube videos, I can find next to nothing about this amp.
I play mostly blues-rock, hard rock, and older style metal. I prefer a more open, raw sound than the compressed, smooth sound. Does anyone have a Ceriatone AFD #35 50 watt that could provide some feedback on it, or maybe some of the other Ceriatone two-channel offerings?
Nik has been great -- extremely helpful and responsive -- which makes me want to buy an amp from him even more. He suggested that the King Kong is very versatile and may fit my needs. I have really liked the sounds of the Yetis, in the videos I could find, but really want something with a clean channel. Nik says that the King Kong is It's very similar except the KK is slightly smoother than the Yeti. It also a bit tighter, bottom end wise, with the Yeti being a bit more vintage/looser, but they he could make a King Kong with the Yeti as the OD channel. I don't really play anything considered modern, so that would probably factor into it.
I play a variety of music, from GNR (my favorite), AC/CD, Black Crowes, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, earlier Metallica and Megadeth. I'm afraid that the AFD may not be versatile enough but the King Kong may be too smooth/refined for what I am looking for. Does anyone have experience with a few of the Ceriatone models who may be able to share some thoughts? Thanks a lot!
