Chambered body Les Paul, 1958 VOS.

I can give you my 10 cents worth, I had a chambered PRS, it sounded great, the chambers are supposed to let the body breathe more, to add some reasonance. I did not see a huge difference, but there was a difference. My solid non-chambered models seem to have a little more attack, but a little less depth to the tone, and had a ever so slightly better definition. I think it would come down to the type of music you would be playing on it. Faster attack styles would lean more towards a solid-body, styles where you want to slow down a little so you can actually hear the notes sing( blusey stuff, jazz) would lean towards the chambered body. They started to Chamber the bodies because people have been bitchin for 30 years that the guitars are too heavy. And people still find things to complain about. IMHO they don't sound all that different. I notice a big difference with chambered strats like the Hollow Anderson's or Suhr's but not soo much with the LP's.

Yup They started doing that to lighten up the guitars because a lot of people were bitching. Now as history would have it....there are more people bitching about them adding the chambers, so Dan is right......No matter WTF you do, someones going to have something to day about it lol!! :rock: :rock:
 
The way I understand it, the supply of GOOD mahogany has dried up and the stuff they are using these days is much more dense/heavy.

They dont just chamber to make them lighter, they chamber them to make them lighter and to hide the fact that the wood under the paint isnt what it used to be.
 
I think I'm gonna grab my Standard and bring it down to GC and play them side by side and see how they sound together.
