Well... with all the talk of Les Pauls, Teles, chickin' pickin' and various country riffs, we've really let ole Chubtone down! Well, I'm here to restore his faith in rig-talk and it doesn't get any more 80s than this... :D

I wanted to re-create the JD Charvel that I played in the 80s, but I wanted it to the spec I really like, so this one is a strat head first of all. It also has the same neck profile as my Music Zoo Nitro, which to me is the most comfortable profile I've played on a Charvel - it is fatter and has a 1 3/4" nut width. I waited 20 months (Charvel quoted me 8 months! :gethim: ) for this guitar, ordered through Curt and I received it from the Custom Shop with just white primer on the body. It then went to Dan Lawrence to re-create the original Jack Daniels paint job because Charvel won't do copyrighted logos anymore. I think he did an incredible job and this guitar has a painted pickup cover and ring, which my original didn't. Also, Dan got me the guitar back in 3 weeks, which just blew me away considering how great the paint looks. He also fixed the headstock for no charge! The painted headstock from Charvel looked pretty bad (dull) and you could even see the "Custom Shop" sticker showing through the paint, which I didn't want. Someone must have put one on and then they tried to just shoot the black paint over it. The headstock now looks perfect after Dan's work. That is also a 60% pre-pro Charvel logo that doesn't have the "Made in USA" on it as I requested. The guitar came with a JB, but I put a Duncan Custom Shop Holdsworth pickup in the guitar - it also has an EVH frictionless pot. The birdseye on the neck is just nuts and they did a dark golden oak oil finish on it to match my other Music Zoo guitar.

Anyway, I couldn't be happier with the result, even though it took way longer than I expected. Also, thanks to Curt for ordering the guitar for me and doing me a real solid on the price! If you need a Charvel Custom Shop and don't mind waiting two years, Curt is your man to order from. For reference, here is me playing my original pointy in 85:

Awesome, Dan did a great job! I know it took awhile, but it worked out exceptionally well

Charvel???? I think I have heard of these before but I can't remember where.

Yeah, BTW - I don't mind waiting for something, what I take issue with is poor expectation setting up front. The Charvel Custom Shop should have never told me 8 months to deliver when it was going to be more like 20. If they had said 24 months up front, I would have been perfectly happy to wait and wouldn't have had any issue...

what happened to the orig?
Sold long ago, unfortunately (I think in '89). It was originally Kahlered and I had the Floyd put in by Performance Guitar when they were in Hollywood. I also decided at one point that the JD paint was a cliche and had Performance re-paint it plain black. Wherever it is (if it still exits   ), it is no longer the guitar you see in the picture or when I bought it new out of Guitar Center Santa Ana in '85...
