Hi
Has anyone tried or owned both to give me opinions.i have 2 mm axis but looking at off loading them for the charvel.???

I've played the Axis and custom shop Charvels (which I think makes all the USA stuff now?). The Charvel custom shop is as good as it gets.

Never played the axis, but have owned the Guthrie and it kills. The features it has just really work for the guitar.Definitely interested in the ash version too!

my close friend who manages the biggest music store on oahu and can get any axe and has a ton including music man stuff recently bought the guthrie and claimed it was the best of his collection, and i have had a chance to check it out well.
the playability and tones are right up my alley. if i couldn't have my tyler, i could be happy with a guthrie and i wouldn't say that about any other charvel i've played.

the owner of the store loved it so much he said the guthrie was the best guitar he has ever played and ordered one and started selling his other private collection off.

I owned and played two Music Man Axis guitars for a few years (one was a BFR) Both were excellent guitars and well made. Played great, sounded great and stayed in tune.

I have played (not owned) a Charvel Guthrie Govan Sig and I have to say I was not impressed with the one I tried. I did like the neck and it sounded great (was setup awesome). But the big kicker for me was the Quality Control. The routing was rough and not sanded smooth and the finishing seemed rushed. Overall it was the little things (attention to details) that I didn't like. Would I play one? Yes however I would not pay anywhere's close to the asking price they are listed at for either new or used. To me its more of $1200-1500 guitar IMO. Maybe the one I played was a bad one I don't know but it was the only one I have tried.

That being said, I do own a Suhr Guthrie Govan Spec Modern and a close friend of mine has a Suhr Set neck Govan Sig and both are leagues better than the Charvel I played. FWIW.

I've never played a Govan but I own an Axis and some Charvel Pro Mods and the necks are fairly different. That would probably be my biggest question about them because they both play and sound great. The Axis neck can feel a little too cramped when I'm playing up high although it is super easy to play overall.

Lack of a Floyd Rose kills the Govan for me... and the Axis has a killer neck shape.

Govan does have a Floyd, just no locking nut or fine tuners.

The Axis has a small neck, 1 5/8th nut width, smallish frets. But feels nice overall. If the Guthrie is anything like other Charvels it's got a wider neck and a 1 11/16th nut.

If you like the Axis neck the Guthrie may or may not be to your liking.

I've played both and personally prefer the Guthrie Charvel. The features on it are really versatile and I really like Charvel's even though I don't own one at the moment.

I am however thinking about picking up one of the new white Joe Deplantier model Charvels. It's not a USA model but for the price it looks like a killer guitar. Maybe a pickup swap but otherwise it looks very nice. Hard to resist since I'm looking for a hard rock tele shape.
