What's the general consensus on these? I had a Japanese Jackson Fusion Pro and really liked it. Are these on par? One popped up on Craigslist and I'm having a GAS attack.

Ive had a model 5 for 25 years.. plays really good. I took out all the lectronics though and made it normal passive. WCR Fillmore in it

That was my main guitar for years, with the Jackson Floyd on it. Plays really well, just not my type of guitar anymore. Sadly, it mostly sits in its case. Been thinking about converting it to passive pups as well.

mine has the funky kahler.. never stayed in tune very well when using the whammy

the early Model series are way underrated. I had a bunch of model 1's and 3's over the years and still have a couple albeit with stratheadstocks now.the model 5 is neck thru, dots. Some had the kahler some had the JT6. You can drop an OFR in place of a JT6. they are great base instruments and with a pickup, pots and trem upgrade often gave the USA ones a run for the money imho.

The build quality of the Model series is great, but I´d replace the electronics and pickups. The JT6 can be pretty OK if you keep the regular nut in front of the locking nut playing smoothly, and much the same goes for the Kahler if you know how to care for it.

I have a model 2, model 6, and 550xl. The model 5 and 6 does not have active pickups, they have a mid boost circuit. I replaced the bridge pu with a Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon Trembucker and left the mid boost in. I did buy a battery box so I can change the battery without removing the cover. I have the JT-6 on both the 2 and 5, they are decent tremolo's. The model 5 and 6 are great guitars and really underrated and good buys.

i love the models and am always looking for a nice clean model 4, 5, or 6. guitar center has some used models for ridiculously-high prices. They're fantastic guitars for the $$ and you can often find them cheap

I have a white Model 6 that I bought new in 1986. Wonderful guitar. Arguably as good as either of my USA Soloists.

Model 5s are really nice guitars. I made a few changes to mine- OFR with a Floyd Upgrades brass block in place of the JT-6, Duncan JB (bridge) & 59 (neck), 3 way switch in place of the 5 way & a few other small pieces parts. This thing comes awful close to my USA Soloists. Very happy with it!
