I'm sure this would be better asked at the JCF but...What do these usually go for? Played a Model 6 the other from 1986, and it was SWEET!!! The mid boost was very cool, and I swear it plays just as good if not better than my RR-1. The guitar felt solid, and the neck just felt great. Real solid, and the craftsmanship seemed top notch. This makes sense as I have been told the Charvels of that period are on par with the quality of the USA jacksons. Thanks guys

Chris

They are great guitars. $500-600 seems to be a good price. I've seen some try for $800...but that seems to be near SL-1 prices. The Professional Pro's are also excellent shred guitars that have thinner necks than the Charvel 5/6 necks.

I stole a used one- in like '87 for $350...sold it a couple of years ago for $350

Ive had mine since 90'. I don't play it much anymore. I actually just took it out last night after about a year in storage and fell in love again. They just scream! and play like butter. Probably why its the only axe I have kept for so long. 500-700 depending on condition is about the going rate.

Thanks guys...I was really blown away by its playability, and the neck especially. It really did scream, and the craftsmanship was top notch, more so than almost everything else I see in guitar stores today. What's the predicted value of these over time? Do we see it going up or down?

I've owned a couple of them myself...including the way 80's fire/magna finish...looking for another right now as well.

I'll let you in on a little secret...the Model 5/6 is the closest thng to a poor man's Caparison TAT. Same construction...same non-flush mounted tremelo style...same neck profile (at least on the older TATs which don't have the flat D like the newer ones).

I bought a near mint one for $780 this past spring. You can see it at my website below. They are incredible guitars. The pickups are passive so you can swap out for your favorites without wiping out the mid boost.

I don't see them being collector items or anything. It was always kinda like the poor mans Soloist. But I don't think they will go down in value to much either.Does it have a Floyd or Kahler? They came with both. Many I see have the mid boost removed.

I believe it was the kahler...I'm gonna go back and check it out ill put up a pic or 2. That's awesome info about the caparison comparison! Just confirming the pickuups ARE passive? They look (and kind of sound to me) like actives?

Bought an ivory white Model 6 that has aged nicely to a putty yellow color new in 1986 for $875. Would not take double for it now. The only mod to it was that I put a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge which works great with the mod boost. I've also rebuilt the Kahler trem on it - replaced the brass cam with a steel one, replaced the trem springs with the heavy duty ones, and replaced the brass rollers with glass ones. I'm a Jackson guy and this guitar is easily as good as my Soloist. Great guitars.

Thanks for the info man, thats what I like to hear! What exactly is the midboost circuitry? How do I keep it when putting whatever pickups I want in the guitar? Not really familiar with this...

The mid boost is a small electronic circuit board that the volume pot is soldered to. The third knob (furthest from the strings) is the mid boost control -- it controls the amount of mid boost -- from no mid boost to full on boost. It really thickens things up nicely - think about 80's metal. The presence of this circuit is what makes the electronics "active", therefore creating the need to use 25k pots vs. 250k or 500k pots. A lot of the Mod 4's and 6's on the used market don't have the mid boost circuit any longer. If you take the plate off of the rear, you'll quickly tell if the circuit is there or not by the fact that a battery is in there and you'll see the circuit. You can switch out the pickups to any standard pickup. I've only used the J100 (original pickup) and an Evolution. I really like the Evolution in there with the mid boost circuit -- lotsa growl.

I have an 87 model 6 and it plays great. I got it for a steal several years ago, like $350 or something like that. It has the Jackson licensed floyd, which is a pos. I've been tempted to replace it with a real one, just never have.
