hello all,

thanks in advance for your knowledge. i plan to create a short-scale superstrat. i bought a loaded charvel pro-mod body on ebay. It's now time to order a neck from musikraft. while creating a neck on their website, i've come to some options that I don't understand, and i'm hoping you can help. i know nothing when it comes to floyds/locking nuts. I would like this neck to have a locking nut just as the charvel neck would have had.

Nut Style: Floyd w/Holes.... Floyd W/O holes.... LSR Setup

which of those do i want?

Nut Installation Option: Slotted Bone... Slotted Tusq... None

What do i want there? none?

thank you very much in advance for your help.

Floyd with holes= holes for the lock nut drilled through the back of the neck (ala old Kramers) w/o hole they are screwed through the front side with small wood screws. How do you plan to make it a short scale guitar using a standard scale body such as a Charvel? I think you need a "Conversion" neck to make that work.
I would talk to someone there to make sure your clear on the options before you buy.

thanks. I meant short-scale as in 24.75" or gibson scale.

You need a short scale body though. Charvel is standard scale. I don't think you can throw a short scale neck on a standard scale body and make it right. You would need a conversion neck like Warmoth makes.

thanks. I know that a warmoth short scale conversion neck would work... I have a friend who put one on a tele body. What is the difference between a warmoth "conversion neck" and a musikraft neck with a 24.75 scale?

thanks

"The conversion is designed to give a 24-3/4" scale on a guitar that was built for 25-1/2" scale necks; so, the conversion neck is slightly shorter than a "regular" 24-3/4" neck would be - it has to make up for the longer distance to the bridge on a 25-1/2" guitar, and making it slightly shorter moves the 12th fret closer to the bridge, so that it works with 24-3/4" scale."

thank you. is warmoth the only company that makes a conversion neck?

In this case, I believe Warmoth is the only one that makes a neck to convert a standard scale body as you are already being told in this thread. One major issue though, the neck pocket on the Charvels is 2 and 1/4" and Warmoth neck butts are 2 and 3/16". You will have a gap on both sides. I think you might want to sell that body and start over with more planning.

Good call. I missed that.

thank you both VERY much. i think i might just go with a 25.5 scale neck. do you guys have any suggestions other than musikraft for whom to have make my neck? I know musikraft will make one with a 2 1/4" heel. I'm planning on getting a strathead, 22 frets, birdseye maple, SS jumbo frets, and a 16" radius. Any options preferable to musikraft?

thanks!

E-mail Musikraft about their 24 3/4" necks, I think they are actually conversion necks. Not positive on that but I have a feeling they are.

I believe USACG also makes conversion necks, although probably not with a correct Charvel headstock.

thank you all very much. I'll either go with a conversion neck or a 25.5 neck with a 2 1/4" heel. If you don't mind, i'll repeat a few questions from my original post:

Nut Style: Floyd w/Holes.... Floyd W/O holes.... LSR Setup
which of these do i want? What is LSR? what is the functional difference between floyd with holes and without?

Nut Installation Option: Slotted Bone... Slotted Tusq... None
i'm clueless as to what would be the appropriate choice here.

thanks!

I would talk to someone there to confirm before I spent the money but,for a Charvel you would want w/o holes as they are screwed through the front of the locking nut. You don't see to many with holes through the back anymore. They were prone to cracks there LSR is a fender roller nut I believe. So if you have a Floyd locking nut you would not want that. same goes for the nut choice. You would be using a Floyd locking nut so I guess it would be none.

Definitely give them a call. They most likely won't pick up, but leave a message with your questions and numbers and they always call back. Doesn't hurt getting information straight from the horse's mouth. They can prob make whatever you need and they'll tell you to select a price/option from the Custom Upcharges thing.. I love my musikraft neck, feels awesum

Nice! I just bought one of their birdseye Asymmetrical necks. Should be here tomorrow.

in case anyone is interested (unlikely), I checked with musikraft: their 24.75 scale neck is a conversion neck and is made for a 25.5 scale body.

Thank you for the input/information.

Are you going to get one? I just got my neck today from them and it looks killer.

yes I am:

short scale, birdseye, strathead, 16" radius, jumbo stainless

what finish did you select for yours, brokenfusion? and how long did it take from initial order until delivery?

thanks
