In keeping with the spirit of what Charvel was about since the early days, we are offering a modified package for the new, made in Japan Pro Mods. These mods make these guitars look like you grabbed a time machine and went back to 1982 and found some cool new Charvels hanging on the wall. In those days, Floyd Rose trems were only available in chrome and then you had your brass hardware combined with the chrome. It's not a modern look, but over the years so many of the original San Dimas Charvels that have gone through our hands had mismatches in pickup colors and hardware etc. It really combined for that "hot rodded" look where we were just trying to improve and upgrade our guitars for optimum performance. If your local shop happened to have the Seymour Duncan you were looking for, you didn't care if it was zebra and your guitar had another black pickup in it. You threw it in there and quite honestly that sort of look where the guitar was not stock, became pretty popular.
This is our take on what can be done to these brand new guitars to take you back to that hot-rodded era. They feature the same Seymour Duncans these come with stock, just switched to zebra, a JB in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. These guitars come stock with direct mounted pickups which is a very modern feature and one that many feel improves the tone of the instrument. We stayed with direct mounting the pickups and installed cream pickup rings for a purely cosmetic old school look. We also are using real deal brass Charvel knobs and strap buttons sourced from the same builder that supplies Charvel directly.
As we have finished each one of these, we have stepped back and thought, "now that is how I wish these were rolling off the production line". We still have the stock versions of these available too. We are trying to figure out a Retro Mod style for the So Cal's so stay posted there.
