In keeping with the spirit of what Charvel was about since the early days, we are offering a modified package for the new, made in Japan Pro Mods. These mods make these guitars look like you grabbed a time machine and went back to 1982 and found some cool new Charvels hanging on the wall. In those days, Floyd Rose trems were only available in chrome and then you had your brass hardware combined with the chrome. It's not a modern look, but over the years so many of the original San Dimas Charvels that have gone through our hands had mismatches in pickup colors and hardware etc. It really combined for that "hot rodded" look where we were just trying to improve and upgrade our guitars for optimum performance. If your local shop happened to have the Seymour Duncan you were looking for, you didn't care if it was zebra and your guitar had another black pickup in it. You threw it in there and quite honestly that sort of look where the guitar was not stock, became pretty popular.

This is our take on what can be done to these brand new guitars to take you back to that hot-rodded era. They feature the same Seymour Duncans these come with stock, just switched to zebra, a JB in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. These guitars come stock with direct mounted pickups which is a very modern feature and one that many feel improves the tone of the instrument. We stayed with direct mounting the pickups and installed cream pickup rings for a purely cosmetic old school look. We also are using real deal brass Charvel knobs and strap buttons sourced from the same builder that supplies Charvel directly.

As we have finished each one of these, we have stepped back and thought, "now that is how I wish these were rolling off the production line". We still have the stock versions of these available too. We are trying to figure out a Retro Mod style for the So Cal's so stay posted there.

Curt, I saw these on ebay, and great job!

This is how they should have been.

I should send you mine to have that done...and maybe buy another from you... ;)

They look fantastic. Double cremes would make them completely retro.

I love double creams too but don't care for DiMarzio's. It seems that most of my customers are Duncan guys over DiMarzio guys, especially on the west coast.

That is how I did mine... :D

Now that's what I'm talking about. But you need some brass :D

I had to wait for it to show up (old pic).

I now have the correct knob, recessed switch ring, and chrome nut.

i really like the white one. What's the going price on these?

They look great!

The brass knob though kinda looks odd to me when most of the other hardware is shiny, polished chrome. Maybe that was the way they were back in the day (not sarcasm, really have no clue)?

EDIT, yeah, does look better that way. Think I'm going to also nab the old brass Shaller tuners I have sitting on a neck I no longer use and put them on this guitar as well.

The brass knob comes from the original set up. When you bought a Charvel in the early '80's, you got a brass vintage style tremolo. Once the owner decide to retrofit one of them fancy Floyd Rose tremolos, you ended up with a chrome bridge and brass accents.

Woah, dude. Those are pretty wicked looking! I had a USA San Dimas a few months back... seeing posts like these makes me want to grab another Charvel Pro Mod of some sort for when that eighties urge strikes me. The black one with the creme rings is especially awesome...

FWIW... I wish they'd offer the brass bridge as an option. I'm not totally sold on Floyds (I much prefer non-locking vibrato units) so that would probably seal the deal for me. Like I mentioned prior, I had a USA San Dimas. Part of the reason I sold it was because I just don't like the hassle involved with setting up and maintaining a Floyd Rose when it comes to wanting to switch tunings...

Woaa those look KILLER Curt!!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with for the SoCal models too

I am Midwest but I prefer the SD's over the DiMarzio's also. I pulled the Tone Zone out of my SoCal quickly and replaced it with a JB.

Are you charging extra for these mods? Does that black one have some flame going on in the neck? They look great btw!

these are awesome , I planned on buying a usa san dimas an doing the exact same thing, u r right, they look much much better like that!
