hey guys i recently took the neck off my charvel for a quick sanding with steel wool and i put some gun stock oil on as suggested by charvel. Anyways i was playing in d standard and went to tune it back up to standard tuning. First off the bridge is blocked so i cant bend upwards. This was set up by mike lull and guitar works in bellevue. After taking the neck off im getting a bad buzz around the 14th fret on the bass side. I have messed around with the neck and the bridge height and im looking for a starting point for measurements to get this guitar back in order. Thank you.

Not claiming to have the answer, but if this was immediate, it might take just a little while for the neck to settle back in, after the tension was relieved while working on it. I find that when I have the neck off of a guitar, that 9 times out of 10, I have somehow knocked the height adjustment studs out of whack, in the process.

well....ive tried everything and this guitar played perfectly with barely any neck relief before. Now i get horible buzzing at the 14th fret and some on the treble side past the 14th fret. Whats making this setup almost impossible is that you have to take the neck off the guitar to adjust the truss rod.

I bet it needs a truss rod tightening, since you tuned UP from D to 440. That puts more pull on the neck. Check the relief and see if you have too much. That would cause buzzing in the upper frets. Too little relief causes buzzing in the lower frets.

Did a shim fall out of the neck and you didnt see it possible?

And why would you take off the neck to sand and steel wool?? Totally unnecessary

Just curious: Is this a US production model or one of the pro mods?

Did you make sure that the neck was seated properly in the pocket? If not, try this. With the guitar tuned up and ready to go, loosen the two neck bolts closest to the bridge 1-2 turns. You should actually here a soft "click" as the string tension pulls the neck heel tighter into the pocket (if you don't hear/feel this, try slightly loosening the other two neck screws as well). Re-tighten and you should be good to go with a well-seated neck. It may or may not fix your issue but its worth a shot.

It's a USA model. I'll check if it's seated correctly. I don't see how it couldn't be.

It is a USA model set up now for d standard I web back because 11-49 was to much. Maybe. Didn't notIce the buzzing before but what I'm getting with very little relIef is buzzing on the Low e on open strums. I'm also getting it around the 14th fret. I'll add a little relief and raise the Floyd until its all gone. It just seems like I have to add more relier and raise the action higher than I did before. Like I said maybe I did not notice some of the issues. I dont think. Charvels factory measurements apply for my tuning or strin guage. I alsO couldn't see how the Nexk was not screwed in correctly doesn seem possible if you screw it In while sitting the guitar up. I'll check

I thought the same thing until I was shown this trick and tried it myself...it works. It may not fix your issue, but at least you'll have a better seated neck with little effort.

okay update on my charvel. I contacted charvel and they gave me thier factory setup specs. I followed them exactly and even tried some variations "more bow to the neck...higher bridge height literally everything" and im still getting the buzz and dead bends after the 12th fret. I know i was stupid to take the neck off to do some light sanding and oiling but i take it off anyways when i need to make adjustments. with that said, is their anyway i could have managed to warp my neck or raise the freats when i applied the gunstock oil? Im not sure that this problem has always existed i just noticed it after i started to play a guitar i have refretted with the plek system.

yes i did twice! im going to take it in for a plek and a setup.
