Hey, sounded great James! Since we both have Friedman-modded Marshalls I had a few questions for you about your setup on that clip:
- What were your EQ settings on the amp?
- Do you use an external EQ with the amp?
- What preamp and power amp tube brands do you use?
- What cab were you using for that clip?
As you know, the gain is usable on a Friedman amp at any setting. Do you set yours pretty halfway or do you have it set higher than that?
Right now I'm using a Marshall 4x12 1960A cab with my amp. I bought a Mesa Recto 2x12 cab awhile back but it does not project as well as the Marshall. Down the road it would be nice to get a Bogner or something.
I always find it odd that guys want to know what someone's EQ setting are. Unless you're playing their amp, their guitar, are in their room, and have their hands what does it matter?

Just make it sound good to you and let it rip.
What are you sayin' boy??? That we are all a buncha tone-clonez and rip-offs!! Dontcha know that everyone has a better tone than you think ya do??
I know what you guys are saying but I'm trying to pin down some harshness and lack of low end with my amp as compared with other Friedman-modded Marshalls and the Friedman amp itself. I have noise (hiss) with the gain at almost any level other than the lowest settings and some harshness that I can't seem to dial out.
After doing some research, it seems that the modded Marshalls have more noise than the actual Friedman amps. I think my amp (2003 SLP Reissue) is just a harsh sounding amp by nature but anything I can do to tame the tone a bit would be nice.
I'm playing thru a Marshall 4x12 with the stock speakers in them. I haven't heard of alot of people using those with the Friedmans so that may play into this as well.
