Choices. . .dual amp rig SLO & 101b

Big gig tomorrow night and I was planning on running a dual amp rig. My main amp (normally) is a 101b with a Chandler echo in the loop. For this show, I was going to run that rig, with a line out into an SDE3000 set for a micro delay w/modulation to fatten things up, then into the return of my SLO's loop, into a second cab.

But then I started thinking, maybe I should use the SLO for my main tone and use the 101b to power the SDE3000 side of the rig.

First world problems, I know. But this would be the place to get opinions on stuff like this, right? :D

Go with what I know, or try out the SLO?
 
I'd use the SLO...but then again I'm a soldano kinda guy!!!
 
Isn't the SLO loop notoriously bad?
I try to never run stuff in the loop if possible

Do you have 2 cabs?
I would do:
- Main amp dry into 1 cab
- Second amp into stereo cab; 1 side dry, 1 side wet (line out to power amp)
In that case you would need a power amp, but if you can afford a 101B and SLO, I'm sure you can afford a Rocktron Velocity of some sort ;)
 
Ha ha! Well, yes, I do have an HHV800 power amp, but I'd rather not lug it out there. I was thinking of using the second amp just for power. Plus, I'd need something to split the amps into stereo, and then I'd also have phasing to pay attention to. That's why I was thinking of using just one of the amps for the source of the tone signal.

I'm going to try the SLO tonight and see how it sounds. If it passes the test, I'll probably use it for the gig. I like my 101b because it gives me a pretty good clean tone (along with the obvious great dirty tones).
 
If you bypass one of the amps' preamp by plugging in the loop return, you might as well carry your power amp and use that for the wet signal. Leave the expensive gear at home ;)
 
Right! I just checked what it is and see what you mean ;)
I was thinking more of a 1-2 unit power amp, not that kinda monster :lol: :LOL:
 
Sell that damn power amp then - you'll never use it! You certainly don't need 800 watts for practicing at home!

Exactly! I used to use it all the time for gigs. I just got out of the habit of running a bigger set up.

And, I cannot remember the last time I played guitar in my bedroom. . .or amplified in my house for that matter.

Taking two heads to the gig is also good because I'd have a back up when and if one of them craps out on me.

SLO loop isn't bad, but probably not the best either...but if you know how to use it, and what gear to use it with...it sounds great!!!

I on the other hand don't like much effects...too many guys relying on delays and reverbs to cover up their sloppy playing!!!
 
I only use a delay in the loop, and it either a Chandler or SDE3000. Usually the Chandler.
 
Go with the Bogner as your main amp and run into the return of the SLO. I have used this same setup. It sounds killer!
 
:thumbsup: Slo's loop = garbage in garbage out. Use higher end equipment and it works great.

I resemble that remark. :gethim:

If it is a big gig wouldn't you be better off using your usual tried and true rig.
Less to worry about and you could focus on your playing and performance.
I would think that would make a bigger difference in the larger picture to the audience.
Just sayin.
 
One problem would be that the SLO's EQ is after the loop return, so slaving the 101B into that would probably give you a fairly scooped tone, and an extra EQ, on top of the SLO's return stage not being clean or transparent. I'd probably run the SLO into the 101B's power section if you insist. I prefer my 100B to my SLO for most stuff though.
 
If it's a "big gig" then I would use whatever I knew and trusted the most. I'd rather use a Valvestate combo that I knew well than a dual-bogner-slo setup I'd never heard before.
