Really. I think that was pretty awesome sounding guitar playing for '68... Hell, I dig it now... it has a vibe. I guess ya just don't have to be Guthrie Govan to impress me (although he's my favorite guitar player/musician now)...

He still sounds like a Spinal Tap dude in the interview though when he isn't playing... ;)

He's 23/24 years old in this video. Had already been through the Yardbirds and Bluesbreakers. Cream would wrap up by the end of that year ('68). He'd go on to Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos (Layla) over the course of the next few years. That's a radio station's worth of material. Not too many people can lay claim to that kind of career, period...let alone rack that up by the time they are ~26 years old.

Just a little history lesson for the younguns. ;)

Respect.

yeah plenty of cool vibe
and we tend to forget rock stars were cool
you didn't have to shred to be a cool rock star
Hendrix rocked, many can out play him...

we are living in a 4th generation world

Rob Halford, Clapton etc...
Spinal tap
the movie rock star
metal shop/skool/steel panther

yes spinal tap was funny
cause those people really were stars and said ridiculous things

nowadays we have no stars
and just watered down humor

this is very cool. Eric Johnson obviously got ideas from this man on tone and phrasing. In Cream Clapton was a brilliant guitarist that could jam forever and take the music somewhere and baker and bruce were just incredible along with him. I loved the way he applied an even tempo vibrato and smoothly connected blues lines. The drugs did do him harm in the mid 70's i think though. just IMO

He shouldnt be allow to talk to the media....

But you gatta admit, that tone was sick

Awesome vid
