I am thinking of getting new speakers for my Vox AC50. I currently use Celestion Anni G12H30's which work great. I have other cab/amp that sounds great through these speakers, so I am looking into what would be best for my Vox AC50.

The problem I have is that I like different things from Alnico versus Ceramic magnet speakers.

Alnico in general, I like:
- Sweeter sounds, especially at lower volumes
- Smoother breakup.

Ceramic in general, I like:
- More punch, cuts through the mix better in a band situation
- More versatile, handles heavier tones better
- Cheaper than Alnico.

So that leaves me with trying to figure out for my AC50 to go with 2 Celestion Alnico golds or scumback scumicos. Or stick with 2 Ceramic magnet anni G12H30 or Scumback H75's or doing one of each. The Weber blue dog/silver dog looks like a cool combo too, but then again do I go with both ceramic magnets or both alnico or one of each.

All these options have my head spinning....

If you like the g12H30 you might find the right speaker with the Tone Tubby Hempcone "40/40"

What's the debate?

Alnico = shitty, farty, and edgy for high gain

Ceramic = bland, boring, and lifeless for cleans.

Which one to go with, is the debate, at least for me..... :D

Unless I'm playing rockabilly, I ALWAYS prefer Ceramic, and I play clean 60% of the time..

I'd get one of each. At the moment I've got a g12h30 and a blue in my ac30, and I'm finding that you get the best of both worlds - clean you get the alnico chimey grindy cleans with sweetness and juice flowing into your ears and all that, and at high gain the g12h30 fills in any areas the blue gets weak - low end punch and high end clarity/articulation.

My aim is to have a two weber speakers - a ceramic silver bell and an alnico blue dog. I've already got the blue dog but the g12h30 overpowers it, otherwise i'd have ditched the celestion blue by now - the webers seem to have less highs and that's a win for me.

That is supposed to be a killer combo the Silver Bell and Blue Dog. Please post a review when you get those in and try them out.....

Shall do, but might not be for a while... the cost of getting a new silver bell in the UK will be no small thing.

Well, some alnicos perhaps.

Both the M75 65w and Scumnico 65w are in it.

From the clip, the Scumico and Alnico Gold sounded great. The V30 good too, but I am not sure if I would have liked the V30 much if they were playing clean. I would love to hear the amp repeated on the clean.
