Like the subject says, the clean channel on my Rebel 30 is very thin and produces static whenever I pluck a string. This will go on for about 15 - 30 minutes seemingly until the amp gets well warmed up and then things are fine. The gain channel is fine.

I am wondering if it is the tubes? Any one have any thoughts? I am in a bit of a bind as I have a gig Wednesday night and no time to take it to a shop.

Thanks!!

Tubes are always a suspect in this sort of thing. Try swapping out another tube and see if it continues, or tap the tubes with a pencil and see if you get any weird sounds. Might not be a bad idea to just re-tube the whole thing anyway.

Thanks for the reply!!

All the tubes or just the 12AX7 in the clean channel? Or all the 12AX7's for that matter?

First try just swapping out and/or tapping the clean channel tube and see what that does. Whether that finds it or not, an occasional full retube isn't a bad idea anyway.

Replaced all the 12AX7's. No joy. Amp is very scratchy/static on the clean channel only. It is ok after it warms up for about 20 minutes.

Next step will be to try contact cleaner in the sockets.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Would you able to record this noise and email to me at begnater@aol.com? Does it do it with nothing plugged in or is it only when you play?

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for the reply. I have emailed two clips to you. This only occurs on the clean channel when I am playing, not when I am idle.

I would turn the volume a few times and the watts control include the mix control because it is a component or tube socket contact glitch it seems.
Unplug the send & return and try it then re-install the FX cables and try they may be dirty contacts.
