With all of the talk about Lee as of late I thought I would put together a really quick clip. I have always loved Shot In The Dark so I thought I would try and learn it. Not the greatest attempt but a fun tune to play nonetheless. Backing track isn't the best but okay since my time is so limited lately. I know it isn't note for note. I always just try and do my own thing.

Anyways, listen away. If you are interested I am happy to post the backing clip for you.

Sounds great, as always!

Jake E. Lee's always been my 2nd favorite player with Ozzy. Hope that reunion actually happens, but think the years haven't been very kind to either.

Sounds awesome Chad!!! Forgive my ignorance but I think that I heard somewhere that the E and A strings are tunes to something else, is that true?

Love Jake E Lee... wish his tone wasn't so buried on Bark at the Moon. These were some great years for Ozzy. The guitar players he found really made him. Every single one of those guys gave him great albums up to No More Tears.

What amp are you using? Sounds very saturated. Me also likes your vibrato. The sign of a player is in his vibrato!!

Jakes a great player. Nicely done.

One of my friends got to jam with Jake when he was on the Ultimate Sin tour in Glen Falls NY. His band (double cross) was playing near by, and Jake and the bass player(forget his name) came into the club where they were playing. He hung out with Jake the next day, and got tickets and back stage passes for the show the following night.

Jake showed him shot in the dark........ He tuned the guitar strange... I wish I could remember. Its like the low E was tuned up to F# or something like that.

Great playing Sir. I loved everything about it the tone , vibrato all well done.

You heard right...he tuned each of those strings up 1 step. I used to do it in standard tuning but the main riff is much easier to pull off in the altered tuning.

So much for using a floyded guitar....

That's why I always did it in standard tuning. I could never get the harmonics at the beginning to sound consistently cool without a Floyd, otherwise I would have done it in the altered tuning with behind-the-nut bends on a hardtail like Jake did it.

Very nicely done!

As for the tuning tricks Jake used that pretty often, even before Ozzy. He made it look easy too.

Thanks Kage! I think he does but I played this in half step down and did the best I could. I couldn't find anything online that says exactly what he did and didn't find it necessary to change my guitar's tuning to get an exact match. Too much work for one tune.

BTW, are you still coming out next week? It sounds like you will be too busy to get together but if anything changes don't hesitate to call me. We can grab some dinner if you have time.

I have been listening to some of his Ozzy era tones and I agree. I am actually surprised with how little gain he uses in comparison to his peers (and me). His Badlands tones were completely raw and these are pretty stripped down too.

I am using my Mark IV. It is very saturated. Thanks for the vibrato compliment. I am not the best but controlled vibrato is what I have been teaching my son. I may not be a very technical player but I try to own the things I can do like vibrato and bends.

Thanks man, whenever you can get them done, no hurry. Like I told you in the pm, my Axe-Fx II died and is on it's way back to Fractal. It's going to be at least the end of next week (probably longer) before I have it or a new one back here, so no Tone-Matching for me for awhile.
