I finally was able to pick up an EVH cab that has been for sale on here since before Christmas. The seller was local and was super nice when I met him (chadprsman).

Anyway, in contrast to my Diezel 4x12 with V30's, this cab is darker without the high mid peak and has a bigger low mid and low end punch. It really complements both the 100 and 50 watt heads.

Here's a clip I recorded using the 50 watt and the cab, miked with an SM57.

The riffing was inspired by Amon Amarth, lol

By Odin's eye, welcome to the EVH club, dude. I love my 5150 III to death, best amp I ever own to date.

Thanks! Ive had my 100 watt for about 2 years and my 50 watt evh for over a year. But I just got the evh cab last week. The cab really gives the amps a different feel and sound and they mate perfectly.

Sounds sick bro. I currently run my 5150 III 100 through an older Marshall with V30's and GT75's in an X....but I am really digging the results you got out of the EVH cab. I am seriously considering getting one now.

I guess what initially turned me off about them was hearing that the speakers the EVH cabs use are somewhat like a Greenback...for some reason I associate the use of Greenbacks in a cab with amps that pump out less gain...hence the lower wattage/earlier breakup to compensate.

Someone school me.

Sounds really good. What kind of settings did you use on the amp for this recording?

gain - 12:00
bass - 1:00
mids - 10:00
treble - 1:00
presence - 1:00
channel volume - 8:00 depending on the section

miked with an SM57 close to the center of the cone, about an inch from the grill cloth, on axis.

i had the cab running at pretty loud room volumes, but not quite gigging levels. I was pleased with a relatively thick tone at very reasonable volumes.

I really liked the 100w through the EVH 412. But I'm just used to that big, wide sound from a big cab.
If you raise the resonance high on the 50w III and lower the bass some to prevent muddiness, can the 50w mimic that big sound of the 100w?

Even though I have a 6505 that just simply kills, I'd still like to get a III.

This is the 50 watt in this clip. I always run the resonance all the way up. It still stays plenty tight.

The 50 can have a lot of low end, but it doesn't quite have as much low mids. I don't consider this a bad thing though. IMO the 50 can hold its own against the 100.

Listen to this clip...this compares the 50 to the 100. Just check the comments as its playing for a breakdown of what amp and cab is being played...
