Seems like these 2 amps get compared a lot so I did a quick comparison clip. Just some random jams, excuse my shitty playing.

Guitar: PRS McCarty
Pickup: Bareknuckle Pig 90
Cab: Soldano 4x12"
Speaker: Eminence Swamp Thang
Microphone: Shure SM7B

One thing I just realised is the Wizard with volume on 3 is as loud as the SLO on 6!

So u have both the mighty wizard and the soldano slo... U sir are my new hero!

I agree they sound similar but to me the Wizard seems to have a bit more clarity and less mud.

Great amps but tuned to Z they both sound the same

Sounds identical in the clip and I think its actually Z flat.

My friend (flavatrocius here on RT) has an SLO. Side by side with my MCII, they are close when cranked up. The Wizard has a little more girth and punch with a slightly faster attack. If you owned an SLO, you wouldnt be missing out not having a Wizard... and vice versa

+1

If you think these clips were too downtuned then you haven't heard what drop Z actually sound like yet...
With the rest of the signal chain being exactly the same, they'd sound similar to a certain degree frequency wise. But I reckon the difference in gain structure is obvious enough.

I've compared my 2018 MC2 & MTL to a 2018 SLO side by side over several days... the Wizards were far and above the better sounding amps for my taste. Not even close for me. The tightness, articulation, focus, and faster response/feel put the Wizards in another class alone, just based on lead channel vs lead channel. The Wizards also do not fall apart or change in tone or bottom end, regardless of volume. Not the same from the SLO. The clean channel comparison was a landslide in favor of the Wizards as well.

Agreed. The SLO was one of my absolute favorites for a while, but once I got a 1996 MCI I sold the SLO for the same reasons. I’ve sold that MCI though and now a 2016 MTL which I like a much better than that MCI, so I can only imagine how it’d compare to a SLO. Honestly I think the SLO is a great amp (especially for its time), but is now obsolete due to amps like the Wizard

I still like my Cameron modded Marshall’s better for my taste, but the Wizard MTL has an unparalleled level of note definition and solidity to its sound. I’m guessing the only amps that would have any chance of matching or maybe exceeding that quality of the Wizard would be the Larry, Homestead or Schroeder Formula. Hopefully I’ll grt a chance to try them out one day

Yeah, never owned either, but I think Soldano is a smooth sound. Think Vh's FUCK album.

It’s hard to tell when you are tuned that low, but the wizard still sounds tighter, I have played both side-by-side and I have owned two SLOs one for six months and one for two months… I will never own another one…
In my opinion, Wizard amplifiers are far superior to the SLO , different league…
Just my opinion though… Tone is so subjective
