Hey guys and gals.

I don't have a lot of money and I"m trying to get my main sound as a Plexi like tone
that I can get from a 1 x 12 or 2 x 12 under say 700 bucks in the 15 to 50 watt range.
I want something that has an effects loop, and that will take a boost pedal if needed good.
I like the british el84 tube power amp stuff, etc,. Any suggestions? Combos would be great
and especially a tube or "sounds close enough" solid state 1 x 12 preferably, or 2 x 12 if the price
is right.
Here is what I'm considering.

Diavlo by Randall in the 20 watt head or the 55 watt or whatever it is.
Peavey Valveking 20 watts combo or head.
Bugera 1 x 12 tube amp. 30 watts I think it is and has two (count'm efx loops) EL84s, etc,. etc,.
Blackstar 1 x 12 20 watt tube amp.

Then if I can't find one of those I like, then I'm still considering the ole
Eleven rack going into a powered PA speaker which I can buy cheap at work. it's a Carvin Made in the USA (Not that it matters maybe) but is like 350 watts and is a 12" speaker, etc,. etc,..
OR
Tech 21 Fly Rig with a Wah and going into again the PA speaker, but the guy at Tech 21 said I might need something that is +4db going into the PA Speaker? Why? How do you tell? He said I can buy something, but I don't really want to do that. So, I thought if I get the fly rig why not get the SS power amp by Tech 21 too and just make it a system as you can daisy chain them and use them in Stereo, etc,.

I'll only be playing at home and very small parties, gigs outdoors this summer and small gigs indoors such as at the VFW, etc,.

Thanks . You guys rock! Great forum. Learn so much.

I'd look for a used Marshall Vintage/Modern head, or a used Marshall DSL head. Both available in 50 or 100 watts...

DSL 40 combo. The crunch channel can do a very nice plexi impersonation. Stock speaker is junk tho.

the jet city jca 20HV is about as plexi as it gets...great amp when cranked

Thanks everyone. I am looking at the Jet City 20 watt combo and 50 watt. Not knowing how big to go, but I want to make sure I can turn up the volume loud enough to get that power tube sustain, etc, creamy, touchy, stuff I love while playing bluesy rock based metal, etc,. I normally will only play parties outdoors, (it seems like it's always a biker group doing some good will for a benefit, etc,) and from time to time in jams with other bands, etc,. So I am confused about the size to get, but I've found after reading and doing some research that it would be better probably to get the 20 watt amp. I guess I can always mic the amp, but some of the parties I"ve played they didn't have a PA. I just show up and jam! Thanks so much .. I really appreciate it..
Going to look at the Jet City first and foremost and then the Peavey Valveking as I like the features on it as far as power watt changing, and tube maintenance. Then I'll also try out the Bugera.. as well as keeping my eyes out for a used Marshall or DSL 40 as someone here suggested. I tried it and loved it. But, I thought it was more like the JCM 800 instead of a plexi, but it wasn't my head and I didn't adjust the eq or anything. Just the gain and volume.

Thanks so much..

If you are playing outdoors I would grab a 4x12...I always seem to need a LOT of volume at an outdoor gig..just saying..good luck!

5150's and Jet City's are not plexi toned amps

Closest thing on the OP's limited budget

5153 blue is boosted Marshall tone isn't it? And the Jet city stuff seems marshall-ish to me. I get the Bugera 1960 is a plexi clone but I'd hate to suggest it and then it starts on fire for the op..just saying.

Might need to go a little bit higher but you price range will be close for a used Budda SuperDrive 18. These do a good impression of plexi type tone. Nothing does a plexi like a plexi right? Lots of other tones in there as well. Very easy to dial in a good tone and takes pedals like a champ.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it.. very much..
