For those of you that regularly communicate with session players, or just players that have a moderate - high theory knowledge....
please teach me the basics I need to get down to "speak the language"
For example:
-Learn to properly name Progressions: "The song is in a I-IV-V-I progression"
-Learn to differentiate between major/minor keys...
etc etc etc.
I'm REALLY trying to learn some theory, but there's SOOOO MUCH stuff that I wan to start with the basic and build up. I'll soon be inviting some respected musicians to my studio and probably audition some for my band, and I don't want to be like:
"well I don't know the name of this chords, but just put your index finger here, your pinky there...."
or
"Key? I'm not sure I think it's Ab but I'm really not sure"
I mean I don't wanna pretend something I'm not, I'm not a Theory expert by any means, but I wanna know the ABC's of musical communication.

So, for the theory gurus here,.. what are the things I should REALLY learn to not look like a bedroom n00b wanker.
