Just finished this new set-up for a local gigging player. MGL100 with 2 Dirty channels in a late '70's JMP style cab along with a matching 2x12 cab w/ large check grill cloth, metal side handles and loaded with 25w Greenbacks. Both cabs are covered in real Marshall black levant tolex. Swanson Cabinets did a great job as usual. Badass for a small club rig!

100 W into 2 25 watt greenbacks?
Sure, for smaller gigs, why not? In a closed back cab they will easily take 50 watts. Even with a 100w amp, how many small gigs are you even using more than 20-25 watts? The customer also has a matching 4x12 for bigger rooms. Jimmy Burkard has played many gigs with his 100w and 2x12 w/ greenbacks. He gets the master volume on his 100w up to 3 -4 and has never had an issue.

Yes, for those gigs where I need a smaller rig I take my 2x12 with 25 watt Greenbacks and MGL100. 3 or 4 on the Master sounds great.

I’d love that rig with the 50 W head

I need a mini headshell, 50 watts, single channel. Like the Mini Splawn Competition 50. I'd be all over it.

I also have the Splawn mini Comp 50w and that headshell is 19”. MGL can do 22” and 24” which to me, those are still great grab and go amp sizes.

I’ve done it quite a few times myself with no issues.

At some point in the last 10 or 15 years, I’ve noticed people online saying you need speakers that can handle twice the wattage of the amp.

I wonder where that came from?
