well, there are tons of Marshall like amps out there....some feel more true than others, and of course it's debatable that almost all hi gainers owe something to marshall (or Fender Bassman in that matter).

I haven't played most of the hi gainers out there so I'm a little bit in the dark. What are some hi gainers that have really complex gain structure? something that definitely doesn't sound like a Marshall hot rod of some sorts?

In my Experience both the Mesa Boogie F-50 and Diezel heads I've owned (Einstein and VH4) have really complex gain structure. Neither of those amp sound much like something else.......

for the more experience guys out there, what are some amps that have unique gain tone?

Mesa Mark Series immediately came to mind. Good call on VHT. I'll add some of the older Rivera amps to the mix (haven't played anything they make since the mid-90s).

What exactly is a "complex gain structure"? I hear this term used pretty often.

It's a misuse of the word. I think he is talking more about the voicing of the amps rather than the actual gain structure. He wants to know what amps sound and play differently than a Marshall or similar sounding amp. I would say SLO, 5150, or Recto for starters as they play very differently than a Marshall or similar amp. All of the amps which took influence from the SLO is where I would start as they actually DO have a bit of a different gain structure, but also unique and differing voices.

The German or european .Amps .Deizel ,Elmwood ,HK ,Engl.
They sound more like a Cross of a Soldano/Marshall 800 rather than the typical hot rodded plexi .Different mids IMO
