Anybody use a compressor for distorted lead sounds, with a fair amount of gain?
What compressor brand/model would be best for that use?
Thanks

I tried a Keeley 4-knob, Boss sustainer and a Dyna Comp with distortion and I couldn't see a reason to keep one on for leads. I like Compressors with cleans or subtle gain like a light overdrive from a pedal but not with high gain.

i'd think some kind of clean boost pedal might be more appropriate

although i've had luck using a barber tone press in that fashion,, but my main use is compressors for clean, rarely for lead work as it does affect the tone somewhat, depends what you're after

Ive been very happy with my Demeter Compulator, but I do use it most with cleans.

Barber Tone Press, but mainly on my cleans. Occasionally on lead if I want smooth singing round tone. It can work great as clean class A style boost too.

Keeley 4 knob is what I use. It's set for mild compression. I leave it on all the time.

Use a Himmelstrutz Miss Nutcracker. Works great. I like the slight boost and tone of it for leads.

Any optical compressor. Dod 280, diamond etc...
