Does anyone like to boost or run a slight amount of compression in front of a distorted amp or pedal? I bought a Xotic SP compressor, just to try it out.. and I really liked the fact that you can blend unprocessed signal with the compressed. It's fun and different to play like this.. it's definitely not for all applications... not for the brOOtz or whatever, more a rock thing with long hanging sustains and melodies.

Im curious about the Diamond Compressor... PPL seems to rave about it, still I bought the Xotic cause of the size. Any thoughts?

I have a diamond bass comp (which I use on guitar too) and a barber tone press. I like to a compressor to get more sustain from cleans or low gain sounds when running my tube amps at low volume. I have also had success running m pay tone press after my overdrive pedals (like trey from phish and his Ross comp).

The diamond does not have as much compression as the barber tone press, but it adds a nice sheen to the tone and the eq knob is great. I have used the diamond as a make shift jangle box comp and it works very well at that.

cool. Would the Diamond have enough compression to "even out" palm mutes with single note melodies.. if you get my meaning?

i run a maxon cp-101 on my pedalboard.for sustain.works well.

I do this sometimes both pedals & amp .... I use the red MXR. But like it best for clean sounds.

I run a Barber Tone Press in the loop of my Einstein. I use a little bit of the comp but more sustain and volume boost. Love it for smooth singing solos.

I use the effectrode to add gain/sustain for lead lines but..

I usually like it set super low just to hold things together

Suhr has as a compressor out.

It's got a mix control and with it turned all the way up, the pedal serves as a transparent 14db clean boost. I've never used a comp before. I would like to get some of the compression effects of OD pedals, without the OD. The Koji has my interest. And it looks cool too.

A friend of mine is into fusion-lead type sounds and told me his compressor is always on, and that it serves as a boost of some sorts

Is the compressor sucking out all the top end or is that the way he dials in his amp?

I imagine that's the tone he's after, or maybe the recording gear he used
I don't think the compressor is the culprit

Just acquired the Diamond Compressor and its awesome! If you're looking for spongy classic compression, this is not the guy for you. BUT, if you want something that's transparent and makes everything sound awesome, this is definitely the box! Can be used as a clean boost, the EQ is fantastic, and it just adds so much magic to the sound, even if used in front of the amp. When I turned it off I felt like I lost my sound. I still have to mess with it some more, but so far I'm extremely impressed!

I think the diamond would have enough compression for that. I see a number of people have the compressor in the loop, I will have to try that.

Hey Jonas, i have an old Ibanez 10 Series Compressor pedal. I think it's called the CP-10. It sounds great for both Clean and OD tones. I actually used it with your amp a few times before shipping it out to you.

Very cool effect if you're looking to get that long hangtime on solos/lead runs without necessarily adding more gain or overdrive. A great example is Steve Stevens old lead tone when he was using the Plexis back in the 80's. He would hit the front end of a cranked Plexi with a Boss CS-2 to get more sustain/compression without changing the amp's tone (like an OD/Distortion pedal would).

Cheers for the input bro! Yeah, totally. I think i'd solely use it when playing without my amp live or at rehearsals. Pedals don't seem to like too much gain compared to an amp such as yours.. without getting muddy, and I hate that.
Im experimenting with a new board for fly-gigs. Gonna get a wampler and a new plexitone for tryout next week...

Pigtronix philosophers tone. I use it with AC/DC type gain. Makes notes sustain forever. One of my favorite pedals. It has a grit knob to dial in a little extra dirt if you want it too.
