I've got a pair of Celestion V30's that are perhaps at least 8yrs old.
I bought them used.
When I first got them I would get this odd tone usually around the high E and B strings around the 12th fret.
I contacted Celestion about this to see if there is some solution before attempting a re-cone or new speakers.
One of their engineers emailed me back and confirmed that it's most and more prominent on those strings around those frets.
His suggestion was to simply "distort" the physical frame of the speaker by tightening one to two of the mounting screws tighter than the others.
So, I decided to get relatively thin washers that fit around the screws.
I installed the washers on the face side of the speaker and cranked down those 2 screws with a good amount of torque, much more than the other 2 screws.
It WORKED!
I don't know if it was just one of the two drivers or both, but I did it on both of them and since then no more cone cry.
If anyone is experiencing cone cry on your drivers give this a try, it just might work.
Also, I've since read that V30's seem especially prone to cone cry.
I hope this helps someone.
