man i found a post i made from 2001....look at some of the prices----wish i still had these babies!:

"most of my pedals were bought used, from pawn shops or private individuals, so i got to check them before buying. not many lemons for this reason...

Rivera BufIV: $38 used/AWESOME
lesse...A/B box, with built-in footswitchable effects loop, and gain boost function...built like a tank and very compact...

TC Line Booster/Distortion: $100 used/Great
Distortion is kinda sterile, but the boost is fat and quiet

TC Sustain/Parametric eq: $125 used/so-so
helped my blues tones at the time, but kinda lacking enough character

TC Phase VII: $100 used/Killer
best pedal phaser ever. rack quality. SMOKES the MXR stuff

TC Stereo Chorus Flanger: $125 used/Great
a classic modern clean sound/never liked the modulation and flanger settings though

MXR dynacomp: $50 new/Great
an old friend--warm and dusty little fatso

Boss CE-1: $175/Nice but kinda pricey
one of the best instant vintage machines around, but kinda noisy, very input sensitive, and rather large for a pedal, but two very usable effects in one pedal

Boss CE-2: $25/Great
no brainer at this price. in many ways better than CE-1...works better for clean and crunch, mono and small for simplicity, battery versus AC dependant

Boss DD-2 delay: $75 used/Decent
does the job-Shawn Lane's fave

Tube Screamer w/808 mod: $170 new/decent
analogman job-sounded warm and famous, but like drivetrain way better for less

Tube Works Real Tube OD: $125 new/so-so
could have found for much less. bought it for an amp (carvin bel air) i ended up never getting. souned awesome with a reissue bassman. fickle pedal to mate with

Rocktron Tsunami chorus: $125 new/decent
didn't keep for very long--poor man's tc---sturdy but too sterile-ambient setting a joke

Rocktron Surf trem: $100 used/decent
not as warm as the Fender or Valveverb, but versatile with a sine/square setting, hush, and compressor all in one place---kinda noisy

Dunlop crybaby: free
worth the price

Vox thomas organ crybaby wah: free
even more worth the price-smoother than generic modern version

Vox modern 847 w/fulltone inductor/pot/true bypass: $90 used/Good
vocal and long throw, but kinda peaky in the high point--more mod required i think

EH deluxe memoryman reissue: $100 used/good
a nice sound and warm round character for clean and low gain, but got kinda squirelly with higher gain. another input sensitive device ala CE-1. jump in vol between off/on made me sell it. milky, washy chorus sound

EH small clone reissue: $60 used/good
subtle to over the edge chorus warble. kinda thin for my blood, but may work better for thicker sounding amps (ampeg, fender)

Budda Phatman: $125 used/great deal
has a lot of character, but can make an already thick amp way too puffy and indistict. use good tubes in it! take out stock cheapo sovtek peanuts and hurl them as far as possible. another good vintage machine.

BBE stinger: $40 used/decent price-
for acoustic guitar amps. pretty bad for all else.

Dan Electro Dan-Echo: $60 used/great
I love this thing. cheap and warm and clean

Arion SCH-1 Chorus: $50 used/KILLER
I LOVE this thing! my favorite chorus pedal ever. Not as transparent as tc, not as fat as CE-1, but a perfect compromise. HUGE warble. tone knob. cheap.

MXR Flanger original: $75 used/great
fattest, warmest flanger i've played.

ADA flanger reissue: $75 used/great
trippy, metallic tones. the creamiest tone i ever got was this pedal set to chorus in front of an ampeg V-4 head clean. pretty dreamy and hypnotic

DOD OD/250 original: $35 used/great
turned my old fender harvard reverb II into a blood splattering beast.

carl martin chorus: a gift/lousy
the switches on the original versions were AWFUL. two independant choruses on one pedal. neat idea, but it aint no tc chorus!
bulky. worked ok for tracking acoustics direct with a cm compressor, but live it bit.

carl martin compressor: a gift/decent
quiet, but unremarkable. worked nicely for recording, but not enough fatness for me live. sounds good on acoustics, but give me the dynacomp any day for electric!

WORST PEDAL EVER:
ZVEX Snow Box"

and of all of these gems all i have left are the arion and the danecho :(

My name is simon and i'm a pedalholic. I've been clean for 5 days now. my last pedal was a skreddy..

it's hard sometimes knowing that the postie isn't bringing anymore, but i take it day by day, hour by hour

peace

I am one too,

Although according to my wife the correct term is Pedalphile

Hi, I'm Dave and I am a pedalholic. I have recently gone from having 13 pedals on my board with 5-10 more waiting on the shelf to an M9 and 4 other boxes. It's a slow process, but I believe that I can make a change for the better.

What I hate, is I love to try pedals. I love to buy pedals. I love to play with them from time to time.

But, reality is, most of them sit in a drawer because I never use them

yuppers.

gear acquisition is like a river, swirling in eddies of time for your enjoyment and education, and then washing away to bring new life.

the rivera was so unique and i got it so cheap i should have kept that, and the ce-1, tc phaser, ada and mxr flangers just because they become such a $$novelty and they did sound great.

but new stuff overall sounds killer and is much quieter and level friendly.

current lineup:
tonebone classic, tone press, menatone JAC, timeline, echolution, bad monkey, arion sch-1, danecho, zendrive, dual boost, hermida distortion, isp decimator, mxr 6 band eq, tuna melt, chicken salad, and the venerable and illustrious metal zone!!

i'm saving that one to give to a kid who's parents i really dislike.

Most of mine sit on one of my 2 pedalboards, but alot rarely get stomped on. Not sure if that is better than them being in a drawer.

LOL. I actually have a Metal Zone that I modded that sounds pretty good! It is somewhat useful as a distortion pedal, and it works really well as a boost.

I do use boost pedals pretty regularly. I generally just plug in whatever is close, lol. I should sell some of them.

I have some some pedals also, like the Whammy. I love to have one around, and don't wanna get rid of it, but to use it very often is just annoying, lol. But, when you want that sound, nothing else will do...

I usually have a few sitting on top of one of my amps, that I plug in sometimes. Usually depends on how lazy I am feeling, and if I feel like plugging it all in

I have thought about building an actual board, thinking it will make me use them more. Judging from your experience, probably not, lol.

mine sounds like a asthmatic goose playing a kazoo on tv. i cannot even pretend to enjoy one tone out of that raspy stinker. i got it because i wanted the power supply at a pawn shop so the guy threw in the pedal for free...is it cursed or something? :D

I am surprised it is still Boss's highest selling pedal. I think its because that mid squawk they have sounds decent into a little 8" speaker combo

I mainly use mine as a boost, but after mods it at least sound decent. That squawk is gone, and it would be usable if I didn't have my amps for some reason.

Wish I still had my DC-3 but sold it on Ebay for $240, could not say no to that.

Hi my name is aaron and im a pedalholic. im not about to stop anytime soon either. since my whole rig is going through a slow change for pedals. sad thing is it would be a lot faster if i could stop buying pedals. :aww:

some of my lowest points are:
making it rain $20s in someones NPD thread until they sold it to me.
calling dibs in someones NPD thread and actually getting it in less then a month. :scared:
being on a waiting list for a megalith. :scared:
and adding to the order
buying super muffs based on muffs ive never played.

I get away from pedals but always come back. I even listen to certain players who use effects just to hear how they use them. I like how the guy from Incubus uses stuff. I wasn't using pedals for a while but i just got a Pigtronix Echolution and their new Envelope Phaser, a Strymon Reverb, and i have a Timefactor coming. Should be fun playing with that stuff.

ah.. a notable sub division of pedalholism.. something from which i suffer also. muffophilia.. i have 5 muff variants now.. i managed to get this under control recently. it took much soul searching but i realised that i just couldn't take anymore muff.. i was drowning in muff.
