Connecting a DI box in parallel with cab

Hi guys,

So I have a Mesa MK IV, which only has one speaker output. I want to connect my cab and my Radial Pro DI in parallel, but I have no second output jack on the cab either.
I saw that Palmer has a solution for that.
I know that I have to connect my amp into the parallel jack here.

Now my questions:

- The Radial Pro DI is not built for use between amp and cab, as it only has a 15 dB pad, but would it be usable like this?
- Do I need to connect a speaker cable between the Radial unit and the Palmer unit?
- Has anyone compared the slave DI out of the MK IV to the sound with a DI?
- Can I safely attach the DI to my 5153, which has 2 output jacks on the amp?

I already have the pro DI, so I figure why buy a DI for speaker level signals, when I can just connect it in parallel. Electricity takes the path of least resistance, the Radial has 140 kOhm without the pad engaged, so I guess there shouldn't be too much signal going there. The total resistance stays 7.99.. so that should be no prob.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks for the help and sorry if the questions are stupid! :) I just want to make sure I don't fry my amp or interface or whatever.

I could be wrong, but, I don't think that unit take speaker level signals. You would probably need to go out the line out of the head.

Yeah, that's why I'd hook it up in parallel to my cab, not in series. Has anyone tried this?
My limited electrical engineering knowledge says this should work, as the cab is 8 Ohms and the DI has 140kOhms, so the signal would mostly go to the cab anyway.

DI and cab in parallel means that the DI sees the same output voltage as your cab, which I'm sure is too much for the DI, high input impedance or not. Line-level devices generally have high input impedance, that doesn't mean they work at load-level signals.

What exactly are you trying to achieve with the DI? To get your preamp affected tone without the speaker?

Any reason why you're looking to avoid an attenuator with a line out in series?

I have a Rivera Rockcrusher, and the Line out level affects the tone, so I want to use my full ampsound (with powerampsound) for use with IRs.

Why not just get the Behringer UltraG? I have one, it works great between the speaker and head (what it is designed for) and is modestly priced. Lots of guys on the Kemper forums are digging it for the new firmware when making profiles.

why buy a new thing if it works with what I have?
I just wanted to make sure if I'm overlooking something and can damage some stuff this way or if it works fine.

Is there no manual available for the Radial? I assume they have a phone number as well…

I can't imagine that anything would go "kaputnick" with the setup you have.

There is a manual, but no mention of such a setup. Thanks, I guess I'll shoot them a mail.

Is really no one using a DI in parallel to the cab?
