Anybody have/tried one?

What about the 6100 cab?

I have the Blue 6100 and cab and I think it's a great amp. Lots of nice tones in there.

Glad you are not looking at the combo version the 6101, those have overheating problems.

I had the 6101 LE, with the LM mod done later.

There are a few versions of the 6100 (hopefully I get them all)
Blue Tolex limited Edition 6100 with EL34's
Blue tolex 6100 with EL34's
Black tolex 6100 with EL34's
Black Tolex 6100 with 5881's
Black Tolex 6100 with 5881's and LM mod

Most people seem to like the nonLM model with EL34's

On the 6101 LE I had with EL34's. I really like the clean on channel 1. Very nice clean for a marshall. Channel 2 was great. I wish modes A,B,C were footswitchable. Mode A, and B were great, wonderful early type to JCM800 era Marshall tones. I didn't really dig Channel 2C, it was usable, but kind of buzzy. The Channel 3 (Lead channel) was not my cup of tea. It was too harsh and buzzy for my tastes. I wonder if I would have liked it better if my amp didn't have the LM mod.

Anyway they are very good amps. Main reliability problems I read about were in the combos and with the midi function.

Used to have the G12-T75's but switched them out for G12-H30's, and ain't looking back. Thanks to Gainfreak (Ralph for that heads up). It's been a few years now and the H30's are staying.

Interesting. I didn't know there were so many different ones. I think the one I'm looking at is the non-LE Blue 6100. Are 30th Anniversary and LE the same thing?

Anybody have an idea what the going rate on these are? There's a 30th Ann on eBay right now - asking for $3,799 BIN :poke:

The one I'm looking at is $1200 for the head and matching cab, seems like a decent deal if it's a good amp, but I don't see any others to compare it to.

Good deal, for the Blue EL34 version... STELLAR deal if the LE version

The LE (Limited Edition) is the polished Brass chassis, transformer, tube covers and logo

There's also a closer picture of the head that says 30th Anniversary

Yup, that's the one I have... not the LE, but a decent deal.

A friend of mine has one of the Blue 30th heads and we plugged a Boss DS-1 and Boss DD-3 into the clean channel and it was instant Satriani tone.

$1200 is a good price for that one. I have seen just the blue tolex head sell for $1000+.

That one is not a limited edition version, but still is the more desirable blue tolex version. These amps are kind of like the Silver Jubilee amps in that the Silver/Blue Tolex models sell for more than the black tolex ones.

One other thing worth mentioning, these amps have a ton of preamp tubes, 6 or 7 if I remember correctly

The Blue Heads with 34's are great!!
Love 'em!
STTAY A MILE AWAY FROM THE COMBO'S THO!!!!
Too much packed into such a small pakge and I've had two overheat.
Nightmare to fix with all the pcb's in there!

Friend of mine has the full anniversary stack - both cabs, etc. Looks awesome!

...sounds like crap though. It really sounds awful... he gets better tones out of a old Digitech tube preamp (the all chrome thing, can't remember what it's called) into the loop than with the actual amp. Kinda scary. Also he never gigs and has this in his living room, which is kinda cool :D

Yup, thats my experience with a LM 6100 -

I kept asking "WHERE'S THE BEEF ?" as in beefy marshall tones

fuzzy buzzy and no low end !!

I had the blue EL34 version head and cab. Great Amp, as Carl says, way ahead of its time. I also had the LM combo - it was ok, but the EL34 version is the one.

I boosted channel 3 and its the closest Marshall ever gets to being Boogie-like. The cleans are nice and warm and channel 2 is the really versatile channel. The mid shift thing is ass, so forget about using that. I also didnt use the comp switches - they sucked low end, and removed shimmer from my cleans.

I had one of these, it was the first and only Marshall I've had. Agree with all those comments, except I though CH2C was useable so long as you gave it a bit of volume and watched the Treble...couldn't do crap with ch3..maybe it worked with single coils...dunno.

This amp would have been the JVM of it's time if Ch3 was a clone of Ch2....

The MIDI was sensitive...I think people would plug in the footswitch while the power was on and blow the MIDI board (fuse maybe?) Dude I sold mine too did that but wouldn't admit it...we had a seriously long dialog trying to find him a repair shop...but in the end he just stopped communicating
