Hey guys, A bit cumbersome...but could use some help. Because I've never had the pleasure (or pocketbook) to play most of the amps on the list, could I get some help with pinpointing which amps will help get me the tone on the original? The project I'm in is pretty high level for cover bands and we want to sound authentic if we can, not sound like me playing most of the songs my way.

Anyway, some of this stuff I can figure out, but could use some help because I'll get my Axefx Tuesday, and only have just over a week to get patches all setup. Effects and other information, not needed, but useful if your aware of any information....Anyway, here is the setlist as it sits right now....i'll add the amps I think will get me close, but please correct if wrong...

kind of a cool idea but i dont feel you need to use the exact amp model of what the actual guitarist used to play everything. id just worry more about setting up a few good sounding patches, clean, low gain, mid gain, hi gain, hi gain lead, mid gain lead, lead wet, etc. at least thats what i do when i get something like that. i use a mark iv with a gsystem live and i only use 5 patches so i dont have to switch banks on the Gsys. But something kinda cool with the G is i can add/take away effects on patches on the fly, so i actually have more than 5 tones. Anyway goodluck and please post vids when you get a chance, ive been wanting an axefx for a long time now..

Yeah I had the G-system and know what you mean. I can, and probably will narrow it down. my approach is usually this with patches.

presets 1-4, are my core sounds. "my" tones. Clean, crunch, heavy, lead. Patches after that will be on a song specific basis pending tone/controllability functions. I already know there are some songs that are going to need their own patch. I dont want to 'copy' the actual amp, but want to sound as authentic as possible to the original recording. This project will be making a lot of money for shows very fast, casino gigs are a given and wanna keep this as high-level as I can.

My band plays about half the songs you have on that list. I use a three channel high gain amp with a Nova Drive and a G-system. I basically just try emulate the effects used for each song more than the tone of the guitar. For example the chorus effect on the rhythm parts for Rebel Yell. And for the solo I use a vibrato set to a really fast speed and the level set high for the ray gun effect. Works really good. As long as you have a good overall tone and the appropriate amount of overdrive for the given song I think you'll be golden. Having the right effect for each song will be key. For All Summer Long you'll basically just need a dry overdriven guitar sound for the rhythm parts and a nice dry clean for those " Sweet Home Alabama" breaks in the song. I use just a touch of reverb on the lead.

very cool....and I hear ya....on the simple amp, but nail the effects.

I guess maybe for my own knowledge I was looking to help put amp names from a manual to a tone i've heard on a cd as well. Some of them have a clean sound that I usually dont dial on, it seems to have a touch of gain, but not enough to be considered 'crunchy' and I dont have a great ear for that stuff...trial and error kinda thing, which is fine, but I only have a week to get it setup.
