Hi all,

I'm just struggling to chose between these two amps, I tried both of them and both sounds great, but overall what will you guys choose? versatility, re-sale value? I heard people said that Cornford doesn't have great re-sale value, it that true?

Thanks

Choose the one you liked best and don't worry as much about resale, unless your a flipper.

Which one fits your playing style?

I'd take the Cornford. I'm just not a big fan of the XTC unless you're talking a 20th Ann.

Does anything have resale value right now? I have an XTC and I love the hell out of it. Never tried a Cornford but would love to try one. XTC's are also much more common IMHO.

For me, the Bogner wins hands down. I was not overly impressed with the Cornford. I spent a good amount of time with one at Solid Body Guitars in MN, tried a few guitars and it just didn't seem to have a personality. It sounded very 'nice' but nothing about it made me overly excited. Played several older Marshalls and Soldanos at the same shop that I prefered.
I love the Bogners.
Get what works for you!

I would take the Corndog for the win over a 101B. It would be a toss up with a 20th XTC though. Both are amazing amps and versatile. One thing about the Cornford is the 2 FX loops, and the switching options available, you can really pack a hell of a lot of options in it. It is a very thrashy and punchy amp with a great gain structure.....and quiet. It has channel masters and an overall master. You can set it up to get the power tubes cooking in it. I would buy another one.

Thank you all, I think I know which one to go for now. THE Cornford!

What price do you guys think for I can get for a good used one?

+1. Wise words there. Both great amps.

Seems like the last used i remember around here was $3200?

Several years ago, you could get a better new price from the dealers, as i think dealers dealed directly with Cornford. Now i don't know if anybody will budge much below the 4 grand?

Don't have experience with the Cornford but I will tell you the versatility of an XTC is difficult to beat for me and find it hard to believe any 2 channel amp would be able to do what my XTC's can do in that regard. 3 channels, all three have footswitchable boost so I use clean, then a light drive on the blue channel, then boosted it gets into medium gain, than i set up red unboosted to have the next level of gain above blue boosted, then red boosted for highest gain and soloing. Red boosted still is very usable for heavy rythym sounds as well as lead, the chunk I get is pretty amazing. I have tried a ton of amps but I can play almost any style thru one of the channels and boosted or unboosted gets me to that sound, everything from Clean jazz, to U2, to AC/DC, to Aerosmith, to VH, to Ozzy and Metallica its all in there for me. Plus a used 101B (not 20th) can be had in the low/mid $2000's making it a genuine bargain to me. In addition, Bogner is here in the US should you have a service issue. Good luck, let us know what you end up buying.

There's a 101b in the classifieds right now with the Marvel mod for $2100.
