Like the thread says. I will be changing living situation for the next 2 years and I'd like to be able to still practice with my BE100 through headphones. I was thinking of grabbing a suhr reactive load but have no idea about setting it up. Questions I have are

1. what are the balanced and unbalanced line outs? which do I use?

2. Would an interface like apogee one be ok or is there a better or cheaper option

3. Can I play without recording.

4. Could somebody walk me through how to set this up. From what I have read it would be guitar -> amp -> load-> Balanced or unbalanced line out? -> interface? -> some kind of impulse response ( torpedo, garage band?)

Thanks in advance. Goal is to keep things as simple as possible.

1. If you can use balanced it´s always better for noise rejection and longer cable runs. Depends on the inputs of the interface, though.
2. The Apogee is fine if you don´t need any more features or in- and outputs.
3. Depends on the interface, if it can send an input straight to headphones or not. Otherwise you need to go thru the computer. I think the One can do this if you set up the hardware mixer in the software application.
4. You´ve got it right, the Suhr needs a cab simulator. Other loads like the Palmers and Torpedos do not, necessarily, since they have their onboard cab sim.

What do you have so far besides the amp? Do you have an Audio Interface already, which DAW,....? Do you have a computer? Do you need only headphones or also Studio Speakers?

The Suhr Reactive Load is a GREAT unit, thats for sure.
The most tricky question is:
1. what are the balanced and unbalanced line outs? which do I use?

You might use whatever your Audio Interface have as HiZ Input. Thats very important. You need a HiZ, at least 10kOhm Input
, better would be a MOhms. The higher the impedance the better the sound.

Look here, this unit has a HiZ input

Right now all I have is amps, and a new MacBook pro. No audio interface or daw. That is where I am getting stuck and want to but what is best for my needs.

Ok,

you need the Suhr reactive Load first of all.

Then the Apogee One and a DAW (Music Software) like Logic für your Macbook Pro.
I would go that route, later you can record and use studio speakers.

You have also the choice to buy an Impulse Loader like the AMT Pangaea instead of your computer and Audio Card.
https://www.thomann.de/de/amt_pangaea_cp_100_fx.htm which has a headphone Out and also effects like Delay, reverb, chorus....

What works for me is the Suhr Reactive load unbalanced out into a Focusrite 2i4. If you want to go a bit cheaper on the interface get a 2i2 but make sure it is the newest version, as it has more headroom and supposedly doesn't clip as easily as the original 2i2.

I use Ableton Live Lite for my DAW which came with my Focusrite along with some reverb and eq plugins. Finally, I use Ignite's NADIR, which is a free impulse response loader.
