Am going to be picking up an XL next week and just want to make sure i know how to hook it up and also have all the requisite cables before it arrives.

1. I am planning on connecting the XL into my Apogee Duet which will then run into garageband ultimately bringing the noise out of yamaha monitors. anyone else running this same setup or something similar? pros/cons? is there a different setup you would recommend?

2. should i use XLR to 1/4" cables or 1/4" to 1/4" cables into the duet?

3. any cable brand recommendations?

thanks in advance

No real need to go into the Apogee Duet. The AxeFx has a built in USB audio interface, so just plug into your Macs USB port & connect your monitors directly to the AxeFx L/R outputs. You choose the AxeFx on your Mac as the default audio device & you're good to go.

Garageband, Logic or any DAW will automatically recognize the AxeFx, so you can easily record.

Or you can simply just jam along to backing tracks on your computer because they will play thru your monitors along with your AxeFx tones...

By the way....there's no more XL in the Fractal store, it's the XL+ now for the same price. The only difference is an upgraded LCD screen.....

Thanks dude, so currently i've got my monitors coming out of the apogee duet which is connected to my computer via usb

You're saying that if i just connect the axe fx to my computer via USB, the sound from the axe fx and any other backing tracks/songs will come out of the monitors simultaneously?

Appreciate the help, might just have to mess around to get the right setup/sound but its really useful to have some guidance

And yea, i saw they released the XL+, but given its just the LCD screen I figure its really still just the XL

Have you checked out Positive Grid, Bias Desktop Pro?

You're better off using your Duet as your audio interface. The Axe FX does have usb and can be used as your interface but it eats up a ton of the cpu's.
I use xld's into a UA apollo and it sounds great
I only use mogami gold/platinum so I can't comment on other brands. Ive never had an issue with mogami
