MY Hamer Chaparall took a header and cracked on the back of the neck where the locking nut bolts are. It goes all the way accross but is not visable on the front. Is this repairable? Any suggestions?
For a solid neck crack fix you need to take the fret board off, break it cleanly and re-glue - doing that will make it stronger than the wood itself.
If you don't, the grain where the crack was is still susceptible to separating beyond the repair. Gluing the existing crack only will usually work unless the grain in the neck is weak.
I took it to a luthier. He said it was nastier than it looks due to cracking thru the locking nut bolt area. He said it should be ok I will know In a week or so.
