I just got this baby to try out and possibly sideline my old Bud-wah which is about 8 years old. I dig the Bud-wah, but wanted a bit more options without and staying on budget.

Anyone have one and what are your thoughts? Do you mess with the variable Q and what setting do you like on the Q control and Range selector?

Also, is this thing true bypass or not?? The box says true bypass. I don't notice any major tone suck, but I did just change my speaker at the same time. Still sounded great. It seems to have less of a sweep on the actual pedal portion compared to my Budda.

Cheers!

I really like the actual wah sound of the 535Q. I used to own it, but I couldn't get over how much it affected the tone when bypassed. My was in other words not true bypass, but that was like 12 years ago so they might have changed that.

I've read they've made revisions to make it TBP, but also saw that some folks were still debating it. ...Glad you liked the sound. I think it's pretty good. Still love my Budda, though.

I am also on the look out for an additional wah. I have a modded cry baby that i really dig but it is a tone sucker when off. Last year I got the mini and with the three voicings, the vintage is pretty damn good. The only issue for me is I am not sold on the size. I wish they had done something along the same size as the xotic wah. Anyway, to answer your question, I believe Dunlop calls it "true hardwire bypass". They call it that because it may not, in fact, be true bypass. Seems strange to me that companies wouldn't just provide true bypass when it looks very simple to do as a mod and not that many more parts to incorporate into a design. I will say that the mini is true hardwire bypass and I think it does a decent job of not sucking tone like the originals. The originals dulled the tone when bypassed, the mini at least, gives it a sort of buffer feel like what you might expect from a BOSS pedal. To me it adds a little highs and that's ok. It will affect the tone for better or worse though depending on your tastes.

What I would recommend is that if you like your wah, just pick up a cheap true bypass loop box from amazon or elsewhere and put it first on your board. Leave the wah on at all times and then just punch in and out on the loop box as required and boom! no tone suck. That's the cheapest option. Would cost you more sending your pedal to someone to be Tue Bypassed. For the time being, I am going to keep both my wahs on the board. The big boy for the dirty wah duties and the mini for vintage sounds. Best of both worlds!

This is my solution: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01J9Y ... QX0W&psc=1 .

I've been using one since about 2000. I've had a few others since then.... But it is the only one I keep. As far as settings go... I find the entire range pretty much usable. I just change it depending on the rig and needs at the time.
