Anyone knowledgeable in the current quality of Dean's USA guitars?

Jim

I have a USA Soltero and Tommy Bolin Tribute Deans, and I had and sold a USA Leslie West model. Solid guitars, I'll put my Soltero up against any Les Paul.

Sweet guitars!! How is the fretwork? Any buzzing across the fretboard that the truss rod can't take care of? Finish flows? Do they stay in tune? How was the set up when you got them?

I believe that is a Wilkerson

I owned 3 usa razorbacks, the tone was nice on all 3 of them. they felt decent and the necks was nice and definately on a different level than the import stuff. i did notice alot of buzz on the frets and i had a couple different guys do some neck adjustments and fret leveling but it didnt go away, the rebel and rust rb had really nice paintjobs and very detailed, on the 3rd rb the paint wasnt that great and the tips of the pinstripes was sloppy. i was shocked because it was a guitar from the namm show display made for matt heafy of trivium and at that time they didnt make it as a sig model and his was the only other like it, a year later they made a small batch similar to it. normally i would have sent it back but tony from dean was cool and at first they didnt wanna sell it because matts was the only one like it. so i didnt wanna complain and i kept it for 6 months and then sold it.

i sold all of them and looking back im glad they are gone. the factory setup was lame and needed neck adjustments and a couple had intonation adjustments.
i felt they was overpriced even after my hookups, i got 2 of them for dealer cost from a friend and the rust i got a ok discount but i still payed too much for it. out of the 3 i lost the most on the rust.
i made 50 bucks on the heafy and lost 700 on the rebel and im embarrased to say what i lost on the rust rb. i would advise anybody to try and get a used dean because theres some nice deals.

i saw a usa version tracii guns tele over the weekend that was used for 1k and its about 2k new.

No finish flaws. Fretwork was great on all 3 Deans I had/ have. They stay in tune well and were set up well from the factory. Only reason I sold the Leslie West was I don't like one PU guitars

Yeah, buy used, killer guitars, but get them after someone else has dealt with the setup flaws, etc... Plus you can pick em up at a steep discount.... I know where a BEAUTIFUL RDZF, trans black flame top, Floyd, Z (explorer) is for a KILLER price, thing sounds and plays great. Wish I had the cash for it. Hit me up I can point ya in the right direction for that one ;)

Edit: never mind he sold it

Wilkinson bridge

Finding out that Elliot Rubinson played bass for part of the recent Schenker tour makes me really want a Dean guitar. He seems like a genuinely cool guy and a legit musician.

I have a USA Dime ML from 3 or so years ago that is great. Factory setup was fine, very low action & plays great. Holds tuning without any issues.

Current Deans play great, well at least the 06-10 models. I haven't bought anything newer. I have a USA lost 100 ML and it plays great and has sustain for days. Its a far superior guitar to Gibson in every way as far as I'm concerned.

I am currently thinking about trying to trade it for an Uberschall though. I have mixed emotions though, because this thing is truely the best guitar I have ever owned.
