Love the white one Curt!!!
How did you block the trem for the D-Tuna?

I'll try to hit all the questions. The pickguard is from Warmoth. Like someone else said, the neck pocket opening of the pickguard needed to be widened a little bit. I installed mine on the guitar and used a Dremel to open it up to the same size as the neck. Also the bridge pickup opening was a hair farther back on the Warmoth pickguard, but only about 1/16" and the pickup did slightly hit the body, so I used the same Dremel and took off the paint on the back side of the pickup rout on the body.

As for swicthing pickups, I had a push pull at the time of these pictures but installed a regular toggle style 3-way switch shortly after because it was too slow switching to the neck pickup with the push pull. As for the D-Tuna, that was on the chrome Floyd already but I wasn't using it so I pulled that off too. I don't like blocked Floyds.

On mine, I stack 2 quarters, and epoxy them to the front of the trem block.

A very hobo way to do it, but I couldn't wait for anything fancy to ship. :D

That's twice as expensive as the way Van Halen did it! :D

Looks good! I've got to ask though...why was the paint chipping already? These guitars aren't that old. Was it a quality issue or something you did? lol

Yes it was a quality issue. The paint was lifting around the rear cover and around the floyd route.

I have another black San Dimas that is doing the same thing. If I didn't get such a good deal on them I would be pissed.

I am going to paint the other one HOK Tangelo Pearl.

I have three of them. The guy who works for me has two. Our teacher in the shop has one and the kid who works for me on weekends has four of them. Only one of these guitars has any issues like that and it's the kid who gigs out 3-4 times a month in a metal band that wears a studded belt and keeps trying to chip more paint off with a flat blade because "it looks cool". None of the rest of our guitars have this at all and I haven't heard about it on the four forums I go to. For you to have two that are doing this is strange.

I have customized both of my So Cal's.

LOL!
I like the dive only + D-Tuna, so I just set them flat on the top and only rout the block and spring cavities.
Then I go back and fit a maple block for the sustain block to rest on, too.

Just wondered if he had a trick for dive only that was specific to these Charvels.

I think it looks good with a natural finish and black hardware.

I have heard a few say that they are going to change out the Floyd for a German made one, what do the ones on these guitars say on the back where it usually says made in Germany ?

They say nothing. They are made in Korea at a factory Schaller set up there because they couldn't keep up with production in their German factory due to substantially more stringent environmental regulations.

It's killing me man...I've been playing Les Pauls and PRS's Singlecuts for probably about 7 years now and that is the first guitar with a floyd on it that I've wanted since I jettisoned all my ESP's years ago. Everything on it is perfect...pickups, colors...I honestly have to quit looking at it.

Question though...weren't some of the parts vintage and where did you get them?

What kind of route is under the pickguard? H S H? H H? Swimming Pool? Thanks

What do you guys think ?

It was black and the paint was pealing so I decided to strip it.
I also changed the Floyd out to a German one.

I think it turned out pretty sweet. I still have to oil it, just trying to make sure I like it.

There is a guy on ebay always selling brass Charvel or replica Charvel knobs and strap buttons. The input jack plate is an old brass one I bought off of ebay. The Floyd is an old one and the tuners were newish Grover ini Rotormatics just like the stock ones but whoever owned them must have had acid sweat because they look 25 years old. I got those for $10 from my local luthier.

John Norum says he wants his guitar back!  Looks great!
